Grading:

Students are asked to “do your best’. You owe it to yourself. Your grade will be based on the total points you earn in this course. These points will be converted to a percentage score. The percentage scale for determining your grade is:

90-100% of the total possible points= A

80-89% = B

70-79%= C

60-69%= D

The factors that determine your overall grade are:

Daily assignments

Quizzes

Tests

Individual and/or group projects

Classroom participation points/Attendance points

Laboratory experiences

Assignments:

Assignments must be completed for course credit. Ample time will be given for your completion. There will not always be class time for these assignments. Due dates will be given on the days the assignment is handed out. These are to be observed!! Daily points will be deducted for late assignments. Assignments are a large part of your grade. ASSIGNMENT NEATNESS IS IMPORTANT. Date your assignments, place assignments into basket unless I pick them up from you.

Extra credit points can be received for enrichment projects in all courses.

Attendance:

Daily attendance is very valuable for developing skills necessary in this course. Absences are recorded and turned into the attendance office at the end of each hour. You will be counted absent when leaving the room before the bell rings without the teacher’s

permission. All unauthorized absences are unexcused absences. Each unexcused absence and 3 or more tardies will result in a 4% grade reduction up to a maximum of 20%.

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK WITH THE TEACHER WITHIN A WEEK AFTER YOUR ABSENT TO SEE IF IT IS EXCUSED.

  1. Make-up: It is the responsibility of the student who has been absent to personally contact the teacher in order to obtain the make-up assignment. Make-up work or tests are to be done before school or during study hour, NOT during class. Work that was due on the day of your absence will be due upon your return to class. Discussions, field trips, and labs virtually cannot be made up. It is your responsibility to get notes and major ideas from students present. Date and mark your assignments “make-up” and place into basket. REMEMBER- MAKE-UP WORK IS YOUR RESPONSIBLILITY!
  2. Tardies: Students are expected to be in your seat when the bell rings. If more than 10 minutes of class is missed it will count as an absence. Three tardies, less than 10 minutes, are also considering an unexcused absence. When arriving tardy, always sign your name of the “late list “ by the door.
  3. Pre-excused absences: The teacher is to be notified 2 or more days in advance of the pre-excused absence. Make-up work will be assigned and is to be completed prior to the absence.
  4. Permission to leave classroom: All students are to remain seated until dismissed by the instructor after the bell rings at the end of the class. Appointments with a guidance counselor are to be scheduled during student’s free hour. You need to use the restroom before or after class.

EACH STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO:

~Treat others with consideration and respect

~Be in assigned seats when the bell rings

~Have materials ready when the bell rings

~Keep on task

~Treat our room, equipment, and materials with respect

~Not eat candy/snacks in the classroom

~Return equipment to its proper place and to clean the work area before being

dismissed by the teacher

~Wait until dismissed by the teacher at the end of the hour

~Stack chairs at the end of the last hour of the day

~Enter the teacher’s office/work area only with permission

YOUR COOPERATION WITH THESE EXPECTATIONS WILL HELP TO PRODUCE A MEANINGFUL AND ENJOYABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS CLASS.
