DRIVER'S RULES:

1. Participants must be sixteen (16) years of age or older. Anyone under eighteen (18) must have a signed minor release form.

2. All drivers and pit crew must sign a release form which releases Fall River County Fair Board, Friends and Judges from any liability/responsibility in case of injury, damage of property, fire or theft.

3. ANY driver or pit crew member drinking alcohol before the derby starts, while the derby is in progress or is intoxicated, will be disqualify the entire crew and car. Coolers brought in will be checked. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

4. All drivers must wear DOT certified safety helmets, eye protection, long-sleeve shirts, and pants. NO SHORTS!!!

5. Judge decisions are FINAL and if you or your pit crew argues YOU ARE OUT!!!

6. These rules apply to Powder-Puff drivers also.

7. If you have entered in the derby you will not be able to run in the Powder-Puff.

CAR RULES:

1. Any year or make of full size car or station wagon except convertibles may be used. No Jeeps, Trucks, SUV's, or Vans allowed.

2. Safety belts are required.

3. All inside door panel, headliners, all carpeting, and rear seats must be removed. DASH MUST ALSO BE REMOVED. Any flammable material must be removed.

4. All glass must be removed from car including windshields, side and rear glass, headlights, taillights, backup lights, turn signals, and mirrors, etc.

5. Original gas tanks must be removed. The gas tank must be placed in the rear seat area and securely fastened down. A maximum size tank of six (8) gallons will be allowed. METAL TANKS ONLY!!!

6. Any car spilling gas or catching on fire will be automatically disqualified.

7. Radiators, if used, must be in the original location. Stock radiators only.

8. Transmission coolers will be allowed only with high pressure hose with proper high pressure fittings or metal lines with proper fittings and a cover to shield the driver.

9. Electric fuel pumps will be allowed, with manual valve within drivers reach.

10. Batteries must be removed from original location and securely fastened to the front of passenger floor board. Maximum of two (2) batteries. Batteries must be covered.

11. Cutting fenders and bumpers for wheel clearance is permitted. Fenders cut for clearance may be bolted or welded back together, without the use of added metal.

12. Engine exhaust pipes may be modified.

13. All decorative chrome must be removed including door handles, door locks, mounting screws, clips license plates, etc.

14. All exterior fiberglass must be removed.

15. Hoods must have a hole cut near the carburetor, twelve (12) inches minimum to extinguish a fire. Cut section may be re- welded or bolted. WITHOUT THE USE OF ADDED METAL. All hoods must be open for inspection

16. Hoods must be in original location and removable for inspection. Hoods may be chained and/or bolted. Maximum of six (6) bolts may be used. The front two bolts may be up to 1” and may extend down through the core support and replace the front two body mounts. THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO BOLTS THAT MAYBE 1”. The remaining bolts may be up to ½” and may be welded in under the hood but cannot attach to the frame in any way. Hood washers may not exceed 5x5x1/4”. If chain is used it must be a single loop around the bumper and no larger than ½” chain. If two pieces of angle iron are welded to the top of the fender and the hood to bolt the hood shut, they can be 2”x2”x1/8” by 8” long and can use one bolt.

17. Engine and transmission may be chained or welded in place.

18. No air shocks or coil springs spaces will be allowed.

19. All doors, trunk lids, or end gates must be chained or welded shut from outside only. Trunks must have twelve (12) in. hole. If the driver's door comes open during the derby, the car is automatically disqualified. When welding the trunk and end gates shut, it may not be welded to the rear bumper

20. Stock bumper brackets may be welded to bumper and to frame, including telescoping bumper brackets. No other welding will be permitted on frame or bumper. If brackets are not welded a short chain must be used to bolt bumper to frame. Bumpers may be replaced with the same manufacturer. (GMC replaced with GMC. Etc)

21. You may weld the top and bottom of the door post for added driver protection without the use of added metal.

22. All cars are allowed to weld a brace bar from drivers post to passenger's door post. NO EXHAUST TUBING!!! Brace bar must have a 6" brace plate on both ends (no bigger, no smaller), welded to brace and door post. (This welding inside the car is permitted) A dash bar may be mounted above or below the steering column from side to side. Halo bar is strongly in but not required.

23. A minimum of two (2) vertical bars MUST be installed in the windshield opening for driver's protection. Rear window is optional. If installed in rear window bar maybe be welded to the top window opening and welded no further than 8” back from where welded on top. A maximum of 5 bars may be used between the two windows.

24. The driver's door must be painted a bold florescent color.

25. A number must be painted on both front doors and the top of the car.

26. All cars must have working brakes before the heat begins. On all four (4) wheels.

27. Rear-end gears may be locked or welded.

28. No tire chains, no studded tires, and wheel weights must be removed.

29. All trailer hitches must be removed.

30. Air-Conditioning Units left of any car must be discharged and disconnected.

31. Body mount bolts may only be replaced with OEM size bolts. Body mounts may be removed as long as OEM bolts size and potions remain the same. Up to 4” washers may be use to old body to frame.

32. Will not be allowed unless all broken glass is removed including inside the doors. Cars should be swept and or vacuumed to remove excess glass.

33. Cars must remain stock unless otherwise stated in the rules; if it is not in the rules it doesn't mean you can do it. Call for clarification first.

34. Station wagon with rear storage compartments may weld lids shut or secured them with 8 bolts total. Trunks and station wagons must have hole cut for the inspector to check.

35. Top frame seams may be welded from the firewall forward. Bottom frame seam may be welded from the control arms forward, this is the only seam welding allowed on the frame. 1: wide weld bead max!!

36. Y frame Chryslers may weld plate to the top or the bottom of the y frame, but not both.

37. New style Fords frames may be tilted, crush box seams may be cut on the top, front, and back, bottom must be remain uncut. May be re-welded with no filler metal.

38. Repairing, straightening, rebuilding damaged cars is allowed. Repairs must not make car stronger, or better than originally. Damaged areas maybe welded or patched with 1/8: Steel. You are allowed a total of two 8”x1/8” plates the width of the frame rail in front of the firewall, and a total of the two 8”x1/8” plates the width of the frame rail behind the firewall. Factory holes in the frame may not be patched unless damaged.

39. Sheet metal may be repaired with material of the same thickness, but must not exceed 18 gauge. May overlap holes or rust by 1”.

40. Bumpers seam may be welded; chrome cover may be welded to inner support. No addition material may be added inside or outside bumpers. No patching holes in bumpers. Bumpers must have a hole in them to have inspected inside bumper.

41. Stock front in parts only. Parts may not be reinforce or altered. No truck or SUV parts allowed.

42. Any 5 lugged rear end allowed in car. Re-axles housing braces allowed. Trailing arm mounts may be fabricated.

43. Leaf springs cars may run a leaf pack of up to 10 leafs. Only 2 may be full length leafs. Four leafs springs clamps allowed per spring, 2 in front of axel, 2 behind axel. Leafs may not be welded together. No leaf springs allowed under no spring cars.

44. No engine cradles, pulley protectors, distributors’ protectors, or transmission protectors allowed.
