1. You will need a textbook: [CHEMISTRY A MOLECULAR APPROACH 2nd Ed or Third Custom Edition for Oakton Community College by Tro], laboratory manual: [CHEMISTRY 121 LAB MANUAL (Oakton Community College) by Slowinski], and a calculator that can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and extract square roots. You will need goggles that must:

·  Fit snuggly against the forehead and face, protecting against splashes.

·  Be impact resistant; ANSI rating of Z87 or higher.

·  Include only indirect venting.

2. Journal. YOUR JOURNAL IS YOUR STUDY GUIDE. Use a 3-ring notebook with loose-leaf paper. Your journal will contain solved classroom practice problems, returned quizzes, and experiment reports. Write short English sentences. Solve problems using a standard format such as “factor label” or “problem, plan, numbers, answer” (See probexamp at Oakton internet access (Par-3)). Always include units. Returned work is your receipt and proof of points earned.

YOU MUST WEAR GOGGLES (See #1) AND COVER UNNECESSARILY EXPOSED SKIN INCLUDING ARMS, LEGS AND FEET TO WORK IN THE LABORATORY. IF YOUR ARE IN VIOLATION, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE AND BE CONSIDERED “ABSENT FROM LAB”. YOU MAY COMPLETE THE MAKE-UP LAB (#3 and mu#) WITH PENALTY (COMSYL X(G))).

A. LABORATORY SAFTEY VIDEO: You must sign a safety certificate indicating you are familiar with laboratory safety.

B. IF YOU EXPERIENCE A CUT OR SUBSTANCE -SKIN CONTACT FOLLOW THIS SEQUENCE: Rinse with water IMMEDIATELY. Wash with soap and water. Report this incident to your instructor.

C. A supply of disposable lab coats and nitrile protective gloves are available.
