Position Description

Position:Assistant Cook/Dishwasher

Department:Food Service

Reports to:Head Cook

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in the preparation and serving of food in the cafeteria in a quick and pleasant manner.

Responsible for head cook duties in cooperation with fellow assistant cook, in the absence of the head cook.

Assists in daily cleaning of the kitchen and cafeteria. Cleaning utensils and dishes. Wash dishes, dining tables and take out garbage. Daily wash counter tops and clean the kitchen floor.

Assists in the disposal and storage of unused food.

Reports immediately any problem or accident occurring in the kitchen or cafeteria premises to the Head Cook.

Attends all safety workshops requested by employer.

Utilizes safety equipment provided by employer.

Work effectively without close supervision

Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment matters.

Maintain cooperative, cordial working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or GED.

Previous experience with quantity food preparation and service preferred.

Ability to comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.

Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Able to express one’s self clearly.

Performance Criteria:

Carries out all job duties following established FairviewSchool District policies, procedures and practices consistent with the mission and philosophy of the school.

Responsible for promoting a safe work culture. Performs all tasks in a proper and safe manner following established policies, general safety rules, and safe operating procedures.

Demonstrates an attitude of collaboration, cooperation and collegiality by the use of excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills in a spirit of team play in order to assure high quality outcomes for all students and staff.

Attends and participates in departmental and district studies and projects, workshops, seminars, etc.

Assist in maintaining good student behavior in the lunchroom.

Equipment Used:

Telephone/voice mail, oven, dishwasher, steamer, mixer and other kitchen equipment.

Physical Demands:

Ability to remain on one’s feet for 100% of the 8 hour working shift.

Grasping for 100% of shift

Ability to reach above shoulder level and extend arm forward many times per shift

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Specific vision abilities required are close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision

Work Environment:

The employee constantly works around others, works with the public, and works inside. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as a cut or burn while performing the duties of this job. The employee occasionally will be working in temperatures about 100 degrees and will be walking on slippery surfaces.

Mental/Motor Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communication. Memory, reasoning, and exercising judgment are constantly used/required on the job. Mathematics, estimating, and problem solving are frequently used/required on the job.

TITLE:Assistant Cook/Dishwasher

QUALIFICATIONS:Outlined in the position description

REPORTS TO:Head Cook

JOB GOAL:To prepare and serve appetizing, attractive, and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, friendliness and warmth. Maintaining moral and ethical standards as prescribed by Fairview School Board policy.

JOB DURATION:Starting August 2017

BENEFITS:District will contribute $375.00 per month toward a medical plan or medical flex plan. (10 mth)

Sick Leave

Vacation Leave (maximum of 240 hours) – school holidays do not always coincide with state or federal holidays.

SALARY:$14.50 hour – 7-7.5 hours a day

2017-2018 ONLY – Impact Stipend of $1.00 will be paid on hours worked at Fairview School.

$5,000 Bonus/HRA will be given, prorated based on attendance

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
