Home BP Monitoring
Many of our patients are now asked to carry out home BP monitoring. For those of you with a computer, please ask for our BP template to be emailed out to you. Input your readings onto the excel spreadsheet and your average BP will be calculated. This can then be emailed back to the practice. We hope to make this available via our website in the near future.
Patient Participation/representation Group
Please consider registering to be part of this ‘virtual’ group. Sign up is via our website and you will receive patient questionnaires and have an opportunity to air your views on our services and plans.
There are invitations to Patient Participation Group meetings in the area and we would welcome expressions of interest to be part of the group who meet with CQC inspectors when they next visit our practice.
New Services – MHH Hub, Badger Farm, Winchester
Cervical Screening Programme
The numbers of women attending for routine screening in our area is falling. This screening has saved many lives so we are appealing to all women to make sure you book your cervical smear test when its due. Letters are sent out when your test is due with an explanation of what is involved.
If you are due your test, please contact the surgery to book in with our experienced practice nurses. We offer appointments at both Stokewood and Old Anchor Surgery although not at the Hub site in Winchester at the moment. Evening appointments and Saturday morning appointments are also available. If you are overdue a test, please book an appointment with a practice nurse.
Smear testing starts from age 25 and is repeated every 3 years until age 50, when testing is carried out at 5 yearly intervals until age 65. This simple test saves lives, please do not ignore your recall letter.d Surgery Issue 36
Routine Appointments - Badger Farm Winchester (MHH Hub)
If you need a routine appointment but cannot wait for a convenient appointment at Stokewood/Old Anchor, or would prefer to be seen in the evenings or weekends, we have routine appointments available within our hub site at Badger Farm Surgery, Winchester (this is located at the back of the Badger Farm Sainsbury’s car park).
Appointments are offered with GPs, practice nurses and healthcare assistants by Mid HampshireHealthcare, which is run by a group of 18 GP practices, including Stokewood. Appointments are booked via our reception staff during Stokewood Surgery opening hours. Patients will be able to choose this location for subsequent appointments and our team are able to search for appointments with the same GP. GP appointments are for 15 minutes. The healthcare professional will have access to your own GP records and be able to arrange blood tests and other investigations and make referrals. All consultation notes and results will go into your GP record. Appointments are available from 5pm to 8pm every day and over the weekend. Currently wait times are very short with appointments available within a few days.
LARCs – Contraceptive Implants. From 3rd March, appointments will be available for contraceptive implants. Appointments will be available to book from 19th February. Appointments will be available evenings from 5pm to 8pm and over the weekend period. Please contact reception at Stokewood to book your 30 minute appointment. Unfortunately coil fittings are not available as yet but we hope this will be offered in the future.

e-Consult
Have you tried out e-consult web tool? You can access this via our website (www.stokewood.co.uk). It is very easy to use and will enable you to contact us for advice or help with a clinical or administrative query. All requests for medical certificates should be made via this web tool. The self-help tool has been set up by NHS England so you can rely on the advice given. The web tool has a built in system for flagging up symptoms that are not safe to ignore and will direct you to phone 111 or 999 if required. You do not need a login or password to use this system, but you do need to be a registered patient at Stokewood Surgery.
Online Bookings – Stokewood Surgery/Old Anchor Surgery
We offer an online booking service which is accessible 24 hours per day. All routine appointments available for GPs are bookable online; our reception team do not have any extra appointments only bookable by telephone. We hope to be offering blood test appointment bookings online in the very near future. Pick up a form at reception (or from our website – available shortly). Complete the form and then bring it into reception, please bring photo id with you. Once registered for this service, you can also request repeat medication online without the need to register again
Travel Clinics
We no longer offer a full travel vaccination service. Due to high demand, our nurse team was struggling to cope with appointment demand and therefore we have prioritised delivery of NHS services. We still offer vaccines available on the NHS but have a limited number of appointments.
There is lots of advice on the www.nhs.uk website on vaccine requirements for different countries and links to advice sites from our own website so please have a look. We also list local private travel clinics (including a new service in Fair Oak Village Pharmacy).
If you need to know which vaccinations you have already had, please ask reception to print you a list or register for online access to your medical records. If you require NHS vaccinations for an upcoming holiday, please contact us at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead to ensure you can be seen and be covered in time for your holiday.
