Research Interests:Prof. Dr Fazal Subhan and his research group is actively involved on testing compounds from both synthetic and natural origin for their utility in pain, inflammation, pyrexia, depression, anxiety, dependence, tolerance, and vomiting. Research in his laboratories is also conducted in the area of neuropathy where the pathological condition is induced in a rat and mice models. The pain models of allodynia and vulvodynia induced by diabetes, chemotherapeutic agents or surgical procedures are well established and the compounds of interest are evaluated for their effectiveness in neuropathic pain conditions with the help of von Frey hairs and other algesiometric techniques. Research is also in progress both at the preclinical and clinical levels for testing newly developed antipsychotic formulations in comparison to the conventional formulations for their safety and therapeutic efficacy. His research group is also working on natural products against chemotherapeutic drugs induced vomiting and opioid withdrawal syndrome. Biochemical and neurotransmitters studies are conducted for correlating behavioral findings and elucidation of mechanism of action of compounds of interest.

Currently, two projects titled "Synthesis and screening of GABA derivatives as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of neuropathic pain" and "Novel targeted heterocyclic compound(s) beta hydroxy ketone derivative-Potential candidates for Alzheimer's disease" granted by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan under NRPU scheme are in progress.
