NMC Standard of Proficiency for Entry to the Register (2004)
- Manage oneself, one’s practice, and that of others, in accordance with The NMC code of professional conduct: standards for conduct, performance and ethics7 (the Code), recognising one’s own abilities and limitations.
- Practise in accordance with an ethical and legal framework which ensures the primacy of patient and client interest and well-being and respects confidentiality.
- Practise in a fair and anti-discriminatory way, acknowledging the differences in beliefs and cultural practices of individuals or groups.
- Engage in, develop and disengage from therapeutic relationships through the use of appropriate communication and interpersonal skills.

Appendix 2
First year Personal Development Portfolio guidance on presentation
What should my end of year 1 portfolio look like?
- All information should be collated in a large lever arch folder or something similar, this will become an invaluable resource file for you throughout the remainder of the course following registration.
- Presentation should be in logical order to include a collection of evidence of your academic, practice, professional and personal development with written evaluation on forms provided throughout the year.
- On completion formulate a contents page at the front to guide you and your personal development tutor through the portfolio
Trimester 1
- All the assessments and their feedback from theory modules, for those you did not get back a summary will suffice
- The PDP forms completed and end of trimester 1 discussion with PDT
- Any personal reflections or study days attended
Trimester 2
- Your wider experience portfolio and practice placement documentation
Trimester 3
- All practice placement documentation (not time cards)
- Personal reflection on at least 1 practice placement event
- Positive Feedback from children; parents and other staff and multidisciplinary team
- Other evidence of your development on the course.
