FACULTY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ONLINE QUIZZES

BA 18 Chapter Quizzes

1.  Download and import the Pools of Questions into your Blackboard course. The Pools of Questions from the Davidson and Forsythe text are labeled chapter-01, chapter-02, etc.

·  You can locate Course Tools -- Tests, Surveys, and Pools – and put the Pools of Questions into Pools.

·  You can edit the questions from the Pool heading. If you notice any problems with particular questions from our textbook, please notify Lynn Forsythe, .

·  If you have problems importing the Pools, please contact Ida Jones, .

2.  Create Tests (Quizzes) by going into Tests, Surveys, and Pools from Course Tools. This time click on Tests. Remember to Submit at each step.

·  Click on Build Test to build a test. In the first step, you will name the test. Suggested names for the quizzes are Ch01Quiz, Ch02Quiz, Ch03Quiz. However, you can give them any name you like.

·  Once you submit the name, the Test Canvas will allow you to select Reuse Questions, and under Reuse Questions you will want to select Create Random Block. You will select the Pool, for example, chapter-01 and the type of questions, Multiple Choice. When you receive the Pools from us, they will only have Multiple Choice questions. You still have to select the type of question from the list on the left.

·  Then you select the number of questions by clicking on the box. We said that we would use 5 Multiple Choice Questions. Click on the box, change the number to 5, and Submit. This is also where you select the number of points per question. The default is 10, so you will want to adjust this to work with your scoring system. You put a check in the box at the top left. This selects the question type. Then you type in the number of points in the box above and click on Update.

3.  Deploy the Quizzes. I will deploy them under Course Documents. Under Course Documents I have folders for the different chapters. (The only exception is that I have 1 folder for the 3 agency chapters.) Remember to Submit at each stage.

·  At the proper location, click on Create Assessment. Under that menu, click on Test. You can add a Test from the list in the dialog box. The Quiz you already created should be there. Add the Quiz and then submit.

·  Blackboard will then give you a list of options.

·  You should make your own decisions about when the Quiz should be available.

·  We recommend:

·  “No” to Open Test in New Window.

·  In 2, “Yes” to make the Link Available when you are ready for students to do the quiz.

·  “No” to New Announcement.

·  “Yes” to Multiple Attempts. We said that we would allow 5 attempts.

·  “No” to Force Completion.

·  Check Set Timer and then set timer to 0 hours and 10 minutes.

·  Set “Auto-submit” on.

·  Set the Display dates and times. This is how I control the deadline. I set it so the quiz is not available after the deadline.

·  Do not require a separate password.

·  In 3, I do not set a Due Date.

·  In 4 Self-assessment Options, select “Include this Test in Grade Center Score Calculations.”

·  In 5, Test Feedback, select “Score” and “Correct Answers.”

·  In 6, Test Presentation Mode, select “One at a Time” and “Prohibit Backtracking.” Also select “Randomize Questions.”

·  Then Submit what you have set up.

·  You can use “Edit the Test Options” to make changes later, for example, if you want to change when a quiz is available or some other variable. I control when students could take a quiz by when the quiz is available. I announce in class when the quiz is available and post that information in the comment field for the quiz.

4.  The chapter quiz will be entered in the Grade Center automatically. Go to “Manage Column Organization” and move the quiz to the proper location in your Grade Center by dragging it to that location and submitting it. You also need to edit some of the information in the Grade Center. Locate the column for the particular quiz. Click on the arrows at the top of the column, and then select “Edit Column Information.” When it opens, under “Score Attempts Using” select “Highest Grade” and then Submit the changes.
