FACULTY COUNCIL RETREAT– 6/16/06

MINUTES:

A.  THE CHANCELLOR - ISSUED A REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENT IN COMMUNICATION AND SHARED GOVERENANCE, THE FACULTY ASSOCIATION (F/C) MUST KEEP OPEN-MINDED, WORK WITH ADMINISTRATION, FOLLOW THROUGH WITH FACULTY ISSUES, INFORM LASSITER, DEAL WITH ADMINISTRATION IN A POSITIVE MANNER, ESTABLISH REGULAR MEETINGS (WEEKLY FACULTY MEETINGS), ENCOURAGE OPEN COMMUNICATION, DOCUMENT EVENTS (SHOULD FORMS BE DEVELOPED)

B.  IMPROVE COMMUNICATION – ATTEND DEAN’S COUNCIL (DC) & VP MEETINGS, MINUTES FROM DC &VP MEETINGS HAVE NOT BEEN RECEIVED, WE NEED TO SHARE INFORMATION TO ESTABLISH OPEN COMMUNICATION WITH ADMIN, WE HAVE A HISTORY OF COMMUNICATION WITH STAFF, VP, PRESIDENT, ETC., FC MEETING NOTES SHOULD, HOWEVER, BE SHORT, CONCISE AND TO THE POINT.

C.  THE FC MUST SET THE TONE - TRUST, PROFESSIONALISM, ETC. WE MUST TRY TO RE-ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION AND TRUST BETWEEN STAFF AND ADMIN. LACK OF TRUST ISSUES WITH ADMIN, EXAMPLES. HIRING PROCESSES, CLASS SIZE & FORMULA PAY, & IAP EVALUATIONS

D.  PRACTICE THE CORE VALUES PRESENTED BY DR. LASSITER.

E.  POLICY IMPLEMENTATION AND PROCESSES MUST BE CONSISTENT: EXAMPLE. CONTRACTS, FORMULA PAY FOR CONTRACTS, NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER CLASS ETC.

F.  FORMULA PAY – IF A CLASS MAKES, FORMULA PAY SHOULD BE PAID, IF THE FACULTY MEMBER IS ELIGIBLE, REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS.

G.  FISCAL CONCERNS

1.  HIGH SCHOOL AT MVC – WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM THAT WILL PAY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL?, LOST SPACE TO HIGH SCHOOL WILL CAUSE MVC TO LOSE CLASS ROOM SPACE FOR OUR COLLEGE STUDENTS.

2.  NURSING PROGRAMS WILL PAY BHC 40% OF THE REVENUE BUT 100% OF THE BILL.

H.  UPWARD EVALUATION –REVIEW THE PROCESSES ALREADY IN PLACE IN THE DISTRICT.

I.  ARRANGE FACULTY COUNCIL MEETINGS WITH THE PRESIDENT, VPI, AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL DEANS.

J.  FIRST MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT SHOULD ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING GOALS,

1.  FOLLOWING POLICY AND PROCEDURES

2.  AIRING ISSUES

3.  INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

4.  VP FUNCTIONAL DUTIES (VP MUST BUILD RELATIONSHIP WITH STAFF)

K.  GOALS FOR COUNCIL:

1.  MEMBERSHIP 100%

2.  DISTRIBUTE CONSTITUTIONAL BI-LAWS (WEB LINK)

3.  SEND LINK TO FACULTY EVALUATION DOCUMENT

4.  IAP EVALUATIONS – INFORM THE FACULTY NOT TO SIGN THE IAP IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH RESULTS, UNTIL YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR COMMENTS IN THE DESIGNATED AREA, THEN FILE A GRIEVANCE WITHIN 5 DAYS.

5.  ADJUNCT FACULTY – MUST BE SACS QUALIFIED, FULL-TIME ACULTY CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE IN ADJUNCT HIRING AND EVALUATION

6.  POLITICAL INFORMATION – GET POLITICALLY INVOLVED, EMPHASIZE IMPACT ON DISTRICT, OBTAIN LOCAL ACTIVE DATA BASE – WHO LIVES WHERE. MEET OFF SITE.

L.  STATE AND LOCAL INVOLVEMENT – TCCTA FACULTY ASSOCIATION, BECOME INVOLVED AND ENCOURAGE INVOLVEMENT IN STATE AND LOCAL POLITICS, GET AS MANY MEMBERS TO BECOME ACTIVE, IMPROVE COMMUNICATION WITH ALL FACULTY ESPECIALLY,

M.  FA SCHOLARSHIP – FULL-TIME STUDENTS, 12 HOURS. GET THE DISTRICT FORM AND CRITERIA,

N.  FACULTY ASSOCIATON MEETINGS ALTERNATE TUESDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS, CLOSED COUNCIL MEETINGS HAVE BEEN PROPOSED
