Proposed Functional Responsibilities

Title / Reports to / Major Responsibilities
Faculty General Manager – (FGM) / Dean /
  • Effective and efficient professional management of the Faculty's administrative functions including financial management, management information, planning, marketing and communications, human resource management, physical and technology resources and secretariat/administrative services to facilitate delivery of the core activities of teaching, research and industry engagement
  • Contributes to and coordinates the strategic and operational planning activities of the Faculty. Ensures implementation and monitoring of plans, strategies and objectives
  • Provides leadership to general staff throughout the Faculty and is a primary interface with other areas within the University and external organisations and represents and promotes the Faculty in management and administrative issues

Faculty Human Resources Manager / FGM /
  • Manage HR strategies for the Faculty
  • Manage the performance development and review program for all Faculty staff
  • Provide advice on and support to individual learning and development plans and organisational development for the Faculty
  • Ensure Faculty compliance with the Enterprise Agreement, Human Resource policies & OH&S legislation.
  • Provides the Dean & HOD’s with advice & support in all HR matters (e.g. grievances, conflict resolution, appeals, induction & probation)
  • Ensure that the academic & general staff details in the central HR system are accurate
  • Administer academic workload models
  • Work collaboratively with the University’s Human Resource Office related to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures

Faculty Information Technology Manager / FGM /
  • Plan the Faculty’s IT requirements and make recommendations to the Dean with respect to enhancements
  • Operate & maintain the Faculty’s IT environment (hardware & software)
  • Troubleshoot IT problems for Faculty staff & students
  • Acquire & implement new IT hardware & software
  • Manage the Faculty’s networks & IT infrastructure
  • Manage the Faculty’s relationship with Information Technology Services

Faculty Marketing Manager / FGM /
  • Develop marketing strategies for the Faculty & Departments
  • Provide marketing advice to the Faculty’s executive and academics
  • Actively support the Associate Deans in relation to growing revenue &enhancing the reputation of the Faculty & Departments
  • Manage the Faculty’s promotional activities, including advertising
  • Manage the Faculty’s external publications
  • Support the process of up-dating web pages and other electronic marketing
  • Ensure Faculty strategies, activities, publications and web site are in line with the University’s Marketing Unit strategic direction
  • Work with The Institutional Advancement team to ensure a planned approach to promotional, fundraising and alumni activities and publications

Faculty Technical Manager (Science only) / FGM /
  • Manage & ensure appropriate planning and preparation for practical classes
  • Support the academics with their teaching & research
  • Manage the procurement of a wide variety of consumables e.g. animals, chemicals, etc
  • Provide assistance with web page design
  • Perform specialist roles required by statutory authorities e.g. chemical & radiation safety
  • Co-ordinate fieldwork activities with academic staff & students
  • Manage OH&S compliance including the introduction of best practices for management of hazards and risks

Student Administration Manager / Assoc Dean
Learning &
Teaching /
  • Manage all aspects of student and course administration within the Faculty
  • Provide support for development, implementation and review of academic programs
  • Undertake high-level research and analysis of relevant information, reports and data on a broad range of student and course related matters
  • Management of undergraduate and postgraduate student administrationand associated processes
  • Ensure compliance with University Academic Rules
  • Develop, implement and provide ongoing management of quality assurance processes for student and course administration within the Faculty
  • Manage the relationship with the University’s Coursework Studies Unit and ensure compliance with University processes
  • Support Faculty Board ensuring compliance with University Rules and governance processes

Research Manager / Assoc Dean Research /
  • Manage all aspects of research administration within the Faculty
  • Provide strategic advice and support to the senior management of the Faculty on building research capacity and output to enhance the research profile of the Faculty
  • Provide an efficient and effective research support infrastructure to enable achievement of the Faculty’s research goals and accountabilities
  • Contribute to the development of research policy and guidelines for the conduct of research and related administration
  • Assist with the development of early career and experienced academics and research staff
  • Develop and devise strategies to raise awareness of research and grant opportunities and support offered by the Faculty
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the Faculty research budget
  • Act as liaison person with the University’s Research Office and other areas of the University for research related matters

Higher Degree Research Manager / Assoc Dean, HDR /
  • Assist with the strategic development and implementation of higher degree research training and support activities
  • Manage the administration of research candidature in accordance with internal and external governance requirements
  • Provide advice and support to the Assoc. Dean, HDR on building HDR capacity
  • Develop and maintain effective networks with Faculty candidates, supervisors, Department staff and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of HDR policy and guidelines for the conduct of higher degree research and related administration
  • Deliver a responsive service to all Faculty HDR candidates and supervisors and track progress
