Department Introduction:

Transportation Services provides innovative and sustainable transportation solutions that facilitate the educational, research, cultural and service missions of the University. TS supports the UW campus with the following: Parking, Transit, Bicycling, Walking, Rideshare, Fleet Services, UW Shuttles, and Transportation Planning & Construction.

Job Purpose:

Maintain the cleanliness and care of a number of enclosed and outside parking lots operated by University of Washington Transportation Services. This position will report to and work under the supervision of the Parking Facilities Supervisor. Perform a variety of basic custodial duties in and around parking facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pick up litter, leaves, or small debris in parking areas, including parking garages
  • Empty garbage cans and deposit trash in campus collection stations
  • Use stick/push brooms, backpack gas blower, and push or mechanical
  • sweeper in parking areas to sweep dirt, dust, leaves and debris
  • Dust overhead ledges and pipes
  • Use mop on stairwells, ramps and associated areas
  • Hose down and scrub stairwells as directed
  • Use approved industrial cleaning chemicals to remove graffiti or infectious waste products
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Cleaning of parking gatehouses, including windows, counters, carpets, walls, gutters, and door tracks
  • May wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows
  • May operate high-pressure washer
  • May move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis
  • Report cleaning supply inventory
  • Report parking area maintenance needs to supervisor
  • Operate University of Washington motor vehicles
  • May support event operations with set up and breakdown
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Physical ability to do required work
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk three hours a day
  • Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies
  • Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
  • Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Prior experience in custodial or cleaning
  • Knowledge of the current Transportation Services programs, products, services and systems at the University of Washington

Conditions of Employment:

  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Frequent bending, lifting, turning, kneeling, reaching and executing other similar physical tasks
  • Works and operates equipment outside in inclement weather
  • Works in enclosed parking areas in presence of vehicle exhaust fumes and dust
  • Must be able to work in enclosed parking areas in extreme temperatures and in the presence dirt, dust, exhaust fumes and/or loud noises
  • This position is designated as one that performs an essential function
  • This means that the position's incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency condition unless otherwise notified
  • A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire
