EXTRUDED ALUMINUM LOUVERS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1SUBMITTALS:

A.Shop drawings: Indicate louver material, design and construction, with sections and elevations. Show methods of attachment to adjacent surfaces.

1.2JOB CONDITIONS:

A.Protection: Protect pre-finished surfaces from damage and staining. Provide protective covering for louvers during subsequent construction.

B.Coordinate installation of louvers to be built into building structure. Secure templates and lay out to rough dimensions furnished by manufacturer.

1.3QUALITY ASSURANCE:

A.Applicable standards; standards of the following, as referenced herein:

1.The Air Moving and Conditioning Association (AMCA).

2.Aluminum Association (AA).

3.American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

1.4WARPANTIES:

A.Finish warranty: Warrant fluoropolymer coating to remain free of checking, crazing, peeling, chalking or fading for a period of five years, beginning at Date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1LOUVERS:

A.Acceptable manufacturers; subject to compliance with specified requirements:

1.Airline Products Co., Div. Danzer Metal Works Co.

2.Airolite Co.

3.American Warming and Ventilating, Inc.

4.Construction Specialties, Inc.

5.Dowco Corp.

6.Industrial Louvers, Inc.

7.Hart & Cooley, Inc., Reliable Products.

8.Basis of design for louvers is Airolite AC507. Louvers of similar design and construction, as manufactured by other manufacturers, may be submitted for the Architect's consideration. Acceptance is subject to compliance with specified design criteria, as evidenced by submittal of specified product data.

C.Characteristics:

1.Type: Stationary, 1-1/4" deep.

2.Material: 6063-T5 aluminum alloy, meeting ASTM B221-92a, 0.081" minimum thickness.

3.Construction: Welded.

4.Blade design: Storm-proof, 45 degrees, straight.

5.Free area: 50%.

6.Finish on exposed aluminum components:

a.Two-coat, shop-applied, baked-on 70% fluoropolymer coating system based on Elf Atochem, Kynar 500 or Ausimont U.S.A., Inc., Hylar 5000 resin (polyvinylidene fluoride, PVDF), formulated by a licensed manufacturer and applied by manufacturer's approved applicator to meet AAMA Publication 605.2-90.

b.Coating system shall provide minimum 1.2 mils dry film thickness consisting of 0.25 (ÅO.05) mil primer and minimum 1.0 mil color coat.

c.Color: Color shall match adjacent vinyl color as indicated on drawings.

7.Screening: 16 by 18 mesh aluminum insect screen in extruded aluminum frame.

D.Sill pieces: Form of same material and finish as louvers.

E.Accessory products:

1.Fasteners: Stainless steel of type required to attach to substrates encountered.

2.Building paper: 15 lbs., asphalt-saturated organic felt.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1INSTALLATION:

A.Install louvers in accord with approved shop drawings and product data, in prepared openings, plumb and level.

B.Separate aluminum from dissimilar metals using one layer of building paper.

C.Attach louvers using stainless steel fasteners spaced at 1’-0" o. c., at head, sill and jambs.

D.Attach louvers using angle frames all sides. Secure angle frames by screws.
