Short description of the organisation

Turkish Cement Manufacturers' Association (TÇMB) was founded in 1957 by the industries manufacturing cement and other hydraulic binders. TÇMB, as a nonprofit organization (NGO) and the common voice of the Turkish cement industry, is fully acting under the rules of free market economy and is representing a total of 68 enterprises in Turkey, as 49 of them being integrated facilities and 19 grinding plant. TÇMB provides common solutions to these enterprises for their research and development activities, services in energy & environment departments, quality control and training services and makes common initiatives for legal and administrative regulations. (www.tcma.org.tr/ENG) TCMB is a member of European Cement Association (CEMBUREAU) and European Cement Research Academy (ECRA).

TÇMB R&D Institute as a nonprofit organization (NGO) was founded in 1978 for testing and research services on cement and raw materials. During the past 38 years R&D Institute staff and the laboratory facilities have extended its services internationally and earned a reputation for high quality and unbiased work with a 25 number of employee. TÇMB R&D Institute analysis scope covers chemical, physical and mechanical properties of cement and related raw materials, different types of waste materials, concrete, aggregate, chemical & mineral admixtures, fuels & alternative fuels and flue gas( including Dioxin-Furan, Halogens, PAHs, trace elements etc.). The laboratories have been accredited by EN/ISO IEC 17025 ‘General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories’ standard by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TURKAK) which is a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accr. Forum (IAF).

Specific skills related to the project

Indicate the specific skills and competence in relation with topic SPIRE-08-2017 «Carbon dioxide utilisation to produce added value chemicals”

ü  Notifying the cement sector about legislation and developments regarding emission directives.

ü  Ensuring coordination for the “Cement Sector CO2 Emission Benchmarking Study” initiated by the TÇMB.

ü  Being in cooperation with governmental bodies, other NGOs and universities.

ü  Participating in both national and international events, conferences, symposiums and workshops on emissions in cement industry.

ü  Bringing companies serving on process technology, energy audits and demand side management together with the industry, considering the sectoral needs and requests.

ü  Experience in H2020 projects (TCMB worked in 6 different H2020 proposal consortiums which resulted very close to threshold levels. Two of them were about CO2 capture and utilization. In those proposals we contribute to the proposal writing with issues about cement industry, finding the proper cement plant for real case application, project management, dissemination etc.

Proposed activities for the project

ü  Providing technical, statistical and legislative information about the cement process, emissions, equipments, waste heat recovery, alternative fuels etc.

ü  Organizing site visits if required and facilitating coordination with a cement plant for industrial application or case studies/ Management of the real case studies

ü  Gathering, consolidating and interpreting the data required by the project.

ü  Dissemination activities by sharing the progress and results of the project with TÇMB Members and other stakeholders through website, journal, seminars, meetings and other events, if permissible.

ü  Organizing debates with cement sector experts through TÇMB Committees if required.

ü  Supplying publication support on energy efficiency.

ü  Assisting in proposal writing in terms of governance structure/ project management etc.
