- Winnie welcomed Kathy McLain, Kathryn Mayo, Shaylah Garcia, Christina Alvarado, Frank Condon to the meeting.
- 2/26/09 minutes were approved by consensus
- The committee discussed the feasibility of organizing a fall cultural event. The dialogue focused on what might be done. Winnie mentioned that in the past the fall cultural event has sometimes competed with the club/spirit day so one challenge would be integrating with and/or complementing this activity. The following ideas were discussed:
•film series,
•experiential opportunities such as the tunnel of oppression or an interactive workshop led by Mosaic Ohana,
•a play or a comic performance,
•hosting a plug and go event from an external group that leads to deeper dialogue
•having the event be an intercultural exchange
•having the event be an awareness fest
However, due to the upcoming accreditation site visit, which will be in early October, the committee decided that we would focus on hosting a Fall 2010 event. That will give the committee one full year to engage in planning.
4. Cultural Events Sub-committee update (Kathy)
- Cesar Chavez update – Kathy indicated that the Cesar Chavez Committee had been notified that their supplemental request for $1600 had been approved contingent on their display of the archived posters and running copies of the first runs of the poster new posters that includes a short history of the poster-making used during the grape strike led by Chávez.
- Earth Week update – Kathy indicated that the subcommittee had awarded $1200 in support of Earth Week.

- Strategic Planning
The committee reviewed the student success and access and growth sections of the strategic plan, focusing on whether the plan sufficiently integrated issues related to diversity, equity and cultural competence. The committee made several suggestions in language and noted that issues related to our socioeconomic diversity were not sufficiently addressed. Kathy indicated that these interests would be included in the final draft of the strategic plan that will be sent to the Executive Committee in April.
- CC and E strategic plan dialogue – this was postponed to the April meeting.
- Cultural Event Proposal Process – this was postponed to the April meeting.

•The committee discussed details related to the All My Sons viewing (April 23rd). Kathy indicated that the proposal had been approved. However, there is a need for someone to spearhead the advertising of the event to both students and employees. This is particularly challenging because we will not meet again until the afternoon immediately preceding the event.
•The Mosaic Ohana presentation in Humboldt was well received and the students reported enjoying the other workshops they were able to attend.
•Kathryn indicated that she had some photographs focusing on gender and identity on display at the Viewpoint Gallery (21st and J) and invited folks to attend the second Saturday event there on March 15th from 5:30 to 9:30.
