About Metal
Metal is the artist’s laboratory space, founded by Jude Kelly OBE in 2002. We are committed to supporting artists from all disciplines by creating time and space for the development of ideas and philosophies around artist’s work - through residencies; exhibitions; events; producing; commissioning; debate and discussion; touring and publishing.
Pop up Essex Writers House Café at Chalkwell Hall
As part of an exciting partnership with Essex Book Festival, Metal is transforming Chalkwell Hall into a pop-up Essex Writers House for the whole month of March 2018.
A wide range of events celebrating words – spoken and written – in all genres and styles will take place throughout the month, including useful seminars for emerging writers, table discussions, a week-long writers lab and a Writers Café and Bar for food, drinks, conversation and daytime readings and events.
The café will serve tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches/paninis. We are looking to create a lively and creative space that will attract a wide range of people to visit throughout the Essex Book Festival.
These posts will be working with a café manager, as well as Metal’s Managing Director, Colette Bailey and the rest of the Metal team to make the Pop up Writers House Café a success.
Duties
-To serve customers within the café, including:-
-Taking orders and ensuring food / drinks are delivered promptly
-Serving tables
-Cleaning tables and generally clearing and washing up
-Keeping the café clean and tidy at all times.
-To ensure that customers are treated with respect and efficiency
-To turn up to work on time and in the appropriate dress
-To assist in creating a café atmosphere that is welcoming, comfortable, interesting and open to all the variety of activity that will be housed there over the festival period.
-To liaise with marketing and PR colleagues to promote the cafe
Skills/qualifications:
All candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:-
