Every Year, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) Upward Bound Math - Science (UBMS) Program

Program Overview

Every year, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) Upward Bound Math - Science (UBMS) program offers a select group of eligible high school students the opportunity to experience college life on the NMU campus. This federally funded program provides students with six weeks of academic enrichment in mathematics and science. Students work directly with experienced educators and scientists in the classroom utilizing state of the art technology. Program and university faculty and staff mentor participants and assist them with educational and career planning. Exposing students to various fields of study and careers relating to math and science are important aspects of the program. Students will also participate in monthly activities, throughout the academic year, including workshops, assignments and field trips. In addition to the program’s academic benefits, students also have the opportunity to experience challenging recreational activities. The location of the NMU campus on the southern shores of Lake Superior offers national advantages for environmental studies and outdoor adventure.
