Discussion of the 2013 40th MSCOD Anniversary Celebration

  • Tricia summarized the issue: In order to decide on a date for the event (ideally in October), we need to find a speaker and see what dates work for them. She shared the different ideas of who we previously decided on to speak. Including:
  • Former Georgia Senator Max Cleland
  • Current U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois
  • Eric Rosenthal of Disability Rights International
  • Allison Barkoff, formerly of Dept. of Justice.
  • Committee membersdiscussed pros and cons of each speaker in roundtable format.
  • Willshire clarified what the MSCOD mission is in reference to what we would want speaker to accomplish.
  • Conversation turned to Harkin who is considered the “Father of the ADA” It was decided that he is the top candidate to reach out to, with Duckworth and Cleland next
  • Other “details” about the needs of a venue (parking, accessible, etc.) were discussed.

  • Tricia said she will share the flyer created with members of the MSCOD Council with the hope that it will be disseminated.
