BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Carriageworks presents BLACK ARTS MARKET 12 – 13 November 2016. The BLACK ARTS MARKET will be curated by Hetti Perkins and Jonathan Jones and will celebrate the cultural heritage of South-eastern Aboriginal Australia.
Artists are invited to express interest in participating in this curated market to showcase the traditional and contemporary culture of southeast Aboriginal Australia by completing and returning this EOI form. A selection panel will assess submissions in June and successful applicants will be advised by the end of June. Stalls are offered for free to invited artists and Carriageworks will retain no percentage of sales. Subsidies for artist travel and freight may be provided at the discretion of Carriageworks. Carriageworks will provide EFTPOS and credit card facilities stations to assist stallholders with sales. A user-pays packing and postal service will be offered. Artists will be responsible for staffing their stalls for the duration of the market.
Artists working in a collective may submit a group EOI detailing each participating artist and including recent and relevant examples of each artists’ work.
Artists from the southeast of Australia will be invited to participate on the basis of their EOI which identifies works suitably priced for a market and demonstrates a strong artistic and design aesthetic. Entrepreneurs creating culturally appropriate products, including accessories, homewares, stationery, floristry etc., are also encouraged to apply.
For the purposes of this event, ‘artists from southeast Australia’ is defined as artists originating from or residing in the Murray-Darling catchment area, NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania.
Expressions of Interest should include artists’ background information and contact details. Images for each artist and a description of products, price range and stock levels must accompany all EOIs.
Expressions of Interest close at 6pm on Friday 27 May 2016. Successful applicants will contacted by the end of June.
