Working Experience and Conferences Attended

Dr. Ernest Konadu Asiedu, a trained Improvement Advisor (IA) of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, Boston, USA has been the Coordinator, Community and Institutional Care at the Health Directorate at the National Catholic Health Service (NCHS) since December 2011.

In this role I lead the unit to support the provision of comprehensive and quality healthcare that is safe in the most effective and efficient way to meet patient and population expectations in the National Catholic Health Service. By this I oversee and support service delivery provision in clinical care and public health across the 35 hospitals and 70 clinics within the National Catholic Health Service.

I had primary responsibility in the NCHS hospital collaborative (Wave 3), aimed at reducing under five mortality in the southern part of Ghana using Quality Improvement Concepts and Methodology and also became one of the regional leads in the National Scale up in the Wave 4 of the work by PFA! in Ghana. I facilitated the Wave 3 team to engage the QI teams in testing and implementing change ideas in improving processes and outcomes in Maternal and Child Health.

I have made poster and oral presentations in child health in Europe and America since 2011 at IHI/BMJ International Conferences.

Also a member of International Society of Quality Healthcare (ISQUa), I made oral presentation at the First Regional Conference in Accra, Ghana in February, 2013 and poster presentation in Edinburgh, Scotland in October, 2013.

Also a member of the Mental Health Innovative Network, I made a poster presentation in June 2014 at National Institute of Health Maryland, USA.

As a member of the Eli Lilly Advisory board for Sub-Sahara Africa on Diabetes, I have attended the Eli Lilly mealtime summit in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2014 and the Advisory Board meeting in February, 2015.

I also made poster presentation in Epidemic Intelligence service (EIS)/ TEPHINET Conference (May, 2016) organized by CDC and Global Partnerships to Advance NCD Research within the Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goal (August, 2016) Emory Conference Center, Emory University both in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

I participated in the just ended Case Study Design and Development training organized by AFENET and Emory University held from August 22 to September 2, 2016 at Emory University, Atlanta Georgia (Cohort II)

I worked as the Deputy Medical Director, Clinical lead in Pediatrics and General practice from 2007 -2011 at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital (SFXH), Assin Foso. While there I was a member of the Central Regional Peer Review Clinical Team and Maternal Mortality Audit, representing the SFXH and one the National Facilitators for the Clinical Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition/Community Management of Acute Malnutrition-(CMAM) since 2010.

I have moderated and facilitated a number of quality improvement teams and supported them in improving health outcomes. As a member of the Christian Health Association of Ghana coordinating team for the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals Accelerated Framework (MAF), we are currently using quality improvement tools, methods and strategy applying the Improvement Collaborative network (ICN) to reduce maternal mortality with an aim of “Zero maternal mortality in 100days from 16th September, 2016”

Educational Background

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology in 2002 and Medical degree in 2005 both at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. While in medical training, I had internship in Harldtawald Klinik in Monchengladbach, Germany (now subsumed by Elizabeth Krankenhaus) where I studied pulmonology associated occupational health, and management of sleep disorders. Further to this I did my houseman ship at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in General Practice.

I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Administration and Management (HAM 2010), and Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Safety Health and Environmental Management (DOSHEM 2010) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra Ghana. I also hold a certificate in Improvement Advisor Development Program (IADP 2010) from the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI)

My interests are in Communicable and non-Communicable Disease epidemiological investigations, Patient Safety, Engaging and Empowering Patient and Family for Quality and Safety, and Patient Centered Care. In addition, I enjoy doing community work and engagement for their intervention in health and environmental issues.
