Application assessment considerations (include but are not limited to):
Disability access – Has a clear footpath width or internal gantry clear width of not less than 1800mm“as practicable”been provided to address DDA requirements. (Compliance with AS 1428.2 required)
Are details provided of transition areas, finished surfaces and any site cross over protections and the treatment of such so as to confirm the management of trip hazards. (Compliance with AS 1428.2)
Does the application include details of hazard lamps to be provided, details of signage for management of pedestrian and traffic movement,hoarding and/or gantry lighting (required 24/7), the hoarding / gantry materials, or materials to protect drops and falls from scaffolds etc.
Do the sections and details for gantries confirm a gantry head clearance of at least 2.5m.

FOOTPATH / ROADWAY OCCUPATION – Additional Information for applicants
The following is additional information that may assist the applicant to design, install, maintain and remove public protection works located within the public space.
- The applicant should make adequate investigation, including taking photos, and record the condition of the public space intended to be occupied. This may consist of footpath, nature-strip, kerb and channel, roadway areas, and other elements such as street furniture, signage, and other Council assets, prior to the commencement of works. Council assets must not be damaged by the works.
- Submitted plans must include provision of clear footpath widths for pedestrians passing through, around or underneath a gantry throughout the entire length of the protection works to be provided.
- All gantry minimum clear widths and minimum clear heights specified are not permitted to be breached by ANY member, component or element of the structure, scaffold / gantry, street furniture, protective or safety coverings.
- Existing parking restriction signs must remain visible to road users at all times.
- Reflective tapes are to be installed to each individual pole/column holding up the gantry/scaffold (usually yellow/black combination).
- Artificial lighting must be provided and maintained within and beneath a gantry, and is to operate (as necessary) at all times 7 days a week. Standard hoardings must also be provided with adequately lighting. Suitable artificial lighting must be attached to the hoarding in locations so as to ensure safe passage as required. Trip hazards must be removed.
- The proposal is not to result in any damage to Council assets. At the completion of works, pre-existing conditions must be reinstated including the removal of all temporary ramps, silt barriers etc. Costs for the repair of damage to any Council assets are to be borne by the applicant.
- All vehicles belonging to workers at the site must be parked legally at all times. Should the applicant wish to arrange for occupation of parking bays, Parking & Local Laws Unit can be contact on (03) 9688 0200. Fees may be applicable.
- All non-hazardous rubbish and building materials are to be contained within the property or disposed of in a rubbish skip situated at a location approved by Parking & Local Laws.
- Site are to be signed and managed in accordance with AS 1742.3-2009 - Manual of uniform traffic control devices Part 3: Traffic control for works on roads and the Worksite Safety – Traffic Management Code of Practice. Signs are required to be fluorescent by day, retro-reflective at night Clause 2.4.3 AS 1742.3-2009
- Council takes no responsibility for members of the public or persons engaged in any activities associated with the traffic diversion who, as a result of the diversion, suffer personal injury, property damage or financial loss.
- Maribyrnong City Council does not accept any responsibility and are to be fully indemnified for damage or injury to property, participants or third parties arising out of the public space occupation.
