EOC Grammar Practice: Fragments and Run On Sentences

If the error is a fragment, write “F” on the line. If the error is a run on, write “R” on the line. Then correct the error using editing marks. To correct a fragment, add a subject/verb or complete the incomplete thought. To correct a run on, add a period, semicolon, conjunction, or subordinate one clause to the other (by adding a word like “although”).

2.___It was here we first decided to become marine biologists, of course at the time we thought this meant actually living with the fish.

3.___As we grew up our friendship got stronger, you could say we were like brothers.

13.___There are both positive and negative consequences for all the actions that one does, unfortunately Odysseus’ were not so positive.

14.___When Odysseus passes the test of the bow and arrow. Penelope may feel sick because she would have to marry what looked like to her a beggar.

15.___As he was about to leave, he stopped to tell the Cyclops his real name then he threw a boulder that almost killed Odysseus and some of his crew.

16.___The gods that help Odysseus in his quest help him with no self benefit at all. Such as Athena who helps him get home in many ways.

EOC Practice: Usage

There means “that location.”
There is also used with linking verbs (am, is, are, was, were).
Their is a possessive word. It always describes a noun.
They’re is a contraction of “they are.” If you can read the sentence with “they are” and the sentence makes sense, then use they’re.

  1. ______clothes really need to be washed, ironed, and put away.
  1. Are you really going to offer ______sister ______room?
  1. It’s a nice gesture, but ______going to regret it.
