Entrada High School Community Council Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by Entrada HS Director, Amy Boettger

Members present:

Approval of Minutes:

·  N/A – first meeting of the school year.

Business:

·  Motion: Glen Smith nominated for president

·  Vote: Motion carried

·  Resolved: Glen Smith is the president of the 2014-2015 Entrada Community Council

·  Motion: Jose Rincon nominated for secretary (minute taking)

·  Vote: Motion carried

·  Resolved: Jose Rincon is the Secretary for the 2014-2015 Entrada Community Council (non-voting member)

Discussion:

  1. Amy explained what Community Council and Land Trust Money are.

a)  Advised of public meetings and informed about the meetings being advertised.

b)  Explained bylaws and articles.

c)  Explanation of land trust money and what Entrada is using it for.

d)  Committee will advise what Entrada is to do with future money that comes in from Land Trust.

e)  Committee officer, their roles and responsibilities were also explained.

  1. Suggestions by the committee members.

a)  Corey Jolly suggested having better info about Entrada’s test-out packets.

b)  Amy Boettger suggested amending article 5 in the by-laws.

c)  President, Glen Smith, suggested more help for lower level students.

i)  Amy Boettger advised of the extra help that students now have via tutors.

d)  Corey Jolly made the suggestion to make have the math packets in order from easy to difficult instead of a variety mixed into one packet.

e)  Jose Rincon commented on making the packets more US based (miles, feet, dollars) so that it is not confusing the students as much.

  1. Amy brought up the following Entrada Updates.

a)  Utopia and what it reports.

i)  Diploma

ii)  GED

iii)  Credits

iv)  Contact hours

v)  Level gains

b)  Defined credit hours and their importance.

c)  Off of current TABE testing math is the subject most students are scoring low in.

d)  Common Core math changes

a)  Amy Boettger passed out yearly Entrada calendars with the meetings and also let the committee know of an additional meeting.

b)  Timeline discussed for current part of the year. It was also brought up as to what has been accomplished and what is still pending for the Community Council.

c)  It was agreed by the council to have a Community Council box in the Entrada Main office for updates and minutes.

  1. Topics for next meeting.

a)  Amend bylaws – definition of member to include student and grandparent.

b)  Approve minutes.

c)  What to do with land trust money.

d)  Drop-out rate.

e)  Resource Program.

f)  More fine arts options.
