Enterprise FacilitationBadlands & South Central RC&Ds, South Dakota

When times are tough and the economy is down, cities and towns look for creative ways to keep their businesses in existence. We all know that the future of our communities lies within our ability to capture, store and preserve the passion, imagination and resources of our people. When the economy became even tougher a few years ago, Badlands RC&D and South Central RC&D set out to put a course of action into motion to solve a variety of problems experienced in the communities they live and work in.

There were a variety of problems seen within the surrounding nine county communities:

  • Area entrepreneurs needed guidance on setting up an effective business plan in order to set their plans into actions.
  • Existing businesses could not expand because bookkeeping and five and ten year plans as well as good record keeping needed improving before business expansion loans could be obtained.
  • A plan was needed to tie Holistic Management, the act of developing grass roots thinking, into the business world for a well rounded home and business life to then create a better community to live, work and raise a family.
  • Guidance in producing the product, marketing the product and financial management.

What has Enterprise Facilitation done for our nine county areas of Bennett, Gregory, Haakon, Jackson, Jones, Mellette, Shannon, Todd and Tripp? Freya Simpson, Badlands South Central Enterprise Facilitator (BSCEF), has worked an average of six days a week assisting people with their business creation and expansion planning. The Enterprise Facilitator fulfills the mission of the Enterprise Facilitation program by providing free and confidential business assistance to people in a nine county area in south central South Dakota.

The Enterprise Facilitator travels throughout the nine county areas to meet with entrepreneurs in their homes, offices, or local meeting places.

Communities and towns in our area are quite excited to see their business expansion and growth. Business today in our communities means satisfied families, customers, and better future existence for all.
