Logger Pro Instruction Sheet
Entering Data into Logger Pro
1. Type independent variable values under x.
2. Type dependent variable values under y.
3. Change the name of column x to appropriate variable including units
- Double click on the X
- Type the name, short name and units (i.e. time, t, s)
4. Change the name of column y to appropriate variable including units.
- Double click on the Y
- Type the name, short name and units (i.e. velocity, v, m/s)
Use an Applicable Scale for Graph
1. Double click anywhere on the graph.
2. On the Graph Options tab uncheck the connect points box.
3. Click on the Axes Options tab at the top of the box.
4. Under y-axis, change autoscale larger to autoscale from 0.
5. Under x-axis, change autoscale larger to autoscale from 0.
Finding line of best fit.
1. If the data appears to be linear, click on the linear fit button (this is the button with R= on it at the top of the screen).
Linearizing Data
1. Determine what method needs to be used in order to linearize the data from the Graphical Methods-Summary sheet.
2. Click on data at the top of the screen and select new calculated column.
3. Name the column with name, short name and units (i.e. time^2, t^2, and s^2 for time squared)
4. Type the appropriate equation in the equation box by selected the appropriate variable from Variables (Columns): box (i.e. select time from the box and to square it would look like: “Time”^2) (To inverse a variable you type 1/ and then select the variable. i.e. 1/”Time”)
5. Click done.
6. Now back on the graph on the axis you wish to change click on the variable and select the new variable (i.e. Time^2 or 1/Time).
7. Find the line of best fit if the data now appears to be linear. If data is not linear follow steps 1-7 again until the data appears to be linear.
