Youth Ministry Coordinator
REPORTS TO:
Pastor of the Parish
OVERVIEW:
St Michael Catholic Community in Calgary, AB is looking for the right person to support and engage the parish’s junior and senior high school youth through relational ministry to know Jesus, love him and make disciples of all nations. The Youth Minister will work with our community of more than 8,000 parishioners and 4 Catholic schools. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) permanent position that reports to the pastor. RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitates weekly youth nights encompassing varied formats such as large and small groups, retreats, and home gatherings
- Ensures good balance between faith development, social development and outreach activities
- Makes regular visits and presentations to the 4 neighbouring parish schools
- Recruit, instruct and sustain a team of volunteers and leaders, as well as engage parents and parishioners as partners
- Works with youth ministry support groups such as the National Evangelization Team (NET Canada), Christian Catholic Outreach, and the Diocesan Youth Retreat team
- All other duties or projects as directed by the Pastor
Qualifications:
- At least two years of youth ministry, religious studies, and/or related experience
- Listens and communicates effectively and sensitively with youth and their families
- Works independently in a varied and diverse environment and as a member of a team
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Have a valid driver’s license
- A fully initiated Catholic in communion with the Catholic Church
- Familiar with Catholic teachings and liturgy and with catechetical methodology
- Comfortable with accountability and sensitivity to the observance of personal boundaries and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary’s model code of conduct.

40 hrs/wk

PLANNING AND REVIEW
The HR Policy recommends a minimum of two performance review sessions per year, once at the beginning of the year to set the stage for the coming year and a second one as a mid-year review to ensure priorities are still valid and on track to meeting your goals. For new employees, the initial planning session will occur at hire and will follow the planning/review schedule.
