ABOUT US

Family-Owned in Central Virginia for 30+ Years

W.W. Enroughty & Son has its roots as a humble, family-owned business. In the early 1960s, founder W.W. Enroughty Sr. started out as a self-employed painting contractor in Richmond, Virginia. He specialized in treating people the way they wanted to be treated, delivering honest work for an honest wage – a philosophy the company still hews to today.

Over the years, Mr. Enroughty found time on weekends to teach his son, Wayne, the fine art of commercial painting. In 1986, after graduating from Hampden-Sydney College, Wayne joined forces with his father to form the W.W. Enroughty & Son corporation, which brought the company in a whole new direction.

Today, we specialize in everything from traditional paint systems and wall coverings to high-performance coatings and various abrasive blasting techniques. We have built a staff of field employees who take pride in providing our clients with the highest quality work performed in a productive, professional and safe manner.

Believing that education is the key to success, we’ve made a commitment to provide our employees with training classes in coating inspection, application and safe work practices. We currently employ more than 100 skilled craftsmen as well as a competent and highly trained office staff in Richmond and Hampton Roads.

About Our Founder

W.W. Enroughty Sr.’s father was a local firefighter who owned a part-time painting operation. Upon his return from service with the United States Marine Corps, William joined his father’s operation and, with three other employees, primarily painted residential and commercial structures.

When his son, Wayne, joined the company after graduating from college, the company began a long period of diverse growth. William passed away in 2010, but the virtues upon which he founded the company – integrity, quality and customer service – live on in W.W. Enroughty & Son.

W. W. Enroughty & Son’s Quality Management System philosophy is to implement procedures that will ensure our clients a quality product and must be a part of every project. Without question it is every employee's responsibility at all levels.

Our QM System encompasses such areas as compliance with project specifications, technical requirements, and compliance with referenced standards. Specific functions are: determination of quality criteria, establishment of a plan to monitor quality, and assignment of our QC inspector. Our QC inspector will monitor the project to confirm that procedures are met by following the inspection criteria outlined within our Quality Control Procedure Manual.

It is the intent of these systems procedures to clearly state our common goal of producing quality work in a safe and healthful atmosphere. The satisfaction of our clients and the safety of our employees continue to be top considerations in the operation of this business.

Executive management is responsible for the implementation of our QM System and will maintain a hands-on approach to the fulfillment of achieving these goals.

CORPORATE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY

Safety Is Our Foundation

The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 clearly states our common goal of safe and healthful working conditions.

The personal safety and health of each employee of this company is of primary importance. The prevention of occupationally-induced injuries and illnesses is of such consequence that it will be given precedence over operating productivity whenever necessary. To the greatest degree possible, management will provide all mechanical and physical facilities required for personal safety and health in keeping with the highest standards.

We will maintain a safety and health program conforming to the best management practices of organizations of our type. To be successful, such a program must embody the proper attitudes toward injury and illness prevention not only on the part of supervisors and employees, but also between each employee and his or her co-workers. Only through such a cooperative effort can a safety program in the best interest of all be established and preserved.

SURFACE PREPARATION

The Means and Methods for Every Job

We provide all types of surface preparation services. Our goal is to perform the surface preparation only as needed, and we have controls in place to prevent the need for costly and time-consuming re-blasting of previously completed areas.

Specific services include:

  • Abrasive blasting
  • Blastrac

  • Spongejetting
  • Ultra Hi-Pressure (UHP) water jetting

Along with our surface preparation equipment, we also provide environmental controls such as dust collection during blasting, dehumidification, media recovery and recycling.

Abrasive Blasting

Our experienced blasters have successfully completed a wide range of blasting projects. Select craftsmen are SSPC-C7 trained and certified, giving them the knowledge required to get the job done right the first time.

Our abrasive blasting equipment includes numerous blast pots from 600-pound units to bulk units capable of running multiple nozzles, which allows us to handle large jobs.

Additionally, we have vacuum recovery systems for abrasive removal and recovery, Blastrac machines and environmental control equipment that allows us to control ambient conditions and prevent the need for costly re-blasting.

INDUSTRIAL COATING

High-Performance Coating Protection

We have applied a full range of industrial coatings in a variety of manufacturing and industrial settings. Our applicators have been trained in the use of conventional, airless, and plural component equipment and maintenance.

Many of our applicators are CAS orC12 certified by the Society for Protective Coatings. We work closely with the majority of today’s coating suppliers and manufacturers, and we take full advantage of opportunities to become certified applicators of their products.

Our industrial clients include those in the power generation, petrochemical, chemical, manufacturing, wastewater, food and beverage, and paper manufacturing fields.

High-Performance Coatings

We have the proper training to handle and apply many types of high-performance coatings, including polyuria, Novalac, vinylester, polyester and special hybrid coatings. These types of coatings are usually manufactured with a particular exposure in mind—chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, surface movement, surface filling or other types of performance in unique situations. We have the proper knowledge and equipment to handle both plural component systems and shop laminate painting.

Licensed Lead-Based Paint Abatement Contractor

W.W. Enroughty & Son is a Licensed Lead-Based Paint Abatement Contractor. We are constantly training and updating our employees on the proper personal protection equipment, controls, handling and disposal of paint reside or waste containing heavy metals such as lead, chromium and cadmium. We audit every abatement project at varying times to ensure proper controls are in place to protect the public, our employees and the environment.

Fireproofing

We have the experience, both in-house and through our affiliate company EPAcoat, to apply all types of fireproofing, including intumescent, cementitious and epoxy-based products.

EPOXY FLOOR SYSTEMS

Decorative and Protective Floor Installations

We have experience with virtually all types of decorative and protective flooring in the commercial and industrial markets. For our application process, we maintain mechanical surface preparation equipment such as diamond grinders and Blastrac machines to properly prepare the surface of all floors before installing any type of floor product.

Commercial Floor Systems

We have installed thin-film epoxy systems to provide both aesthetic appeal and hygienic protection.

Typically, these floors are high-solids and self-leveling systems that can remain the color as applied or can be enhanced with a broadcast of decorative aggregate—including quartz or a variety of stylish silica placed in the finished floor. Additionally, we can enhance these floors with non-skid properties for protection from slips and falls.

These floors are usually applied over surfaces that have been prepared by stone or diamond grinding to promote adhesion to the bare concrete, which increases the life and service length of the floor.
