ENH Term 1 – Who’s running this country anyway?
Common Assessment Task #1
Teach us about... Politics!
In this task you need to:
- Select one area of politics and government that you are interested in
- Improve your understanding by conducting research on this topic
- Prepare a digital presentation that ‘teaches others’ about this topic
- Present this ‘lesson’ to a group (Oral Presentation)
1. Select one of the following topics for your ‘lesson’
- The origins of democracy
- Types of governments
- Federation of Australia
- Levels of government
- Houses of Parliament
- Elections and preferential voting system
- Political parties
- Creating a law
2. Research this topic to improve and extend your knowledge
Using the Internet, non-fiction books, video clips, news reports and brochuresresearch detailed information about this topic. You will need to ‘teach others’ about this topic, so you will need to be an ‘expert’.
Use these questions starters to guide your research.
- When did... When was..
- Where did... Where does...
- Who was... Who will... Who is.. Who can...
- Who introduced... Who leads...
- Why was.. Why is...Why did... Why didn’t...
- What did... What was... What did... What could... What is...
** Create a Bibliography – recording the details of where you find your information (sources) **
Find a selection of images/pictures/diagrams to use in your digital presentation
Extension –
- Can you find video clips linked to your topic that have not been used in class?
- Can you find songs that might be linked to your topic, for use in your digital presentation?
- Can you create an animation to include in your presentation?
3. Prepare a digital presentation to help you with your ‘lesson’
Using presentation software (PowerPoint, Prezi, Powtoon, 280 slides) create a slideshow that will help you to explain your topic to your ‘class’.
Keep these rules in mind:
- Include a title page with the topic, your name and an ‘Expected Learning’
- Use headings to organise your information. Do not include too much text on each slide
- You must include movement/animation, images and sound in your slideshow(Level 8)
- You will be writing a script for your Oral Presentation, you will not be reading what is on the screen. This is a ‘hint’ to remind the students what you will be talking about (dot points)
- Proof read all of your work, twice!
4. Prepare and present your ‘lesson’ to a group of students (Oral Presentation)
1. Look at your slideshow. Plan and write down what you are going to say at each slide.
2. Rehearse, using your digital presentation during rehearsals.
3. Present your ‘lesson’ – this is when you get to ‘teach’ the class about your topic.
