PART I: OBJECTIVE
Vocabulary - Know the definition and usage of newvocabulary from The Great Gatsby, A Streetcar Named Desire and A Raisin in the Sun (see back for list of words).
Literature: review reading notes, know characters and key lines and conflicts and symbols and themes of The Great Gatsby, A Raisin in the Sun, The Glass Castleand A Streetcar Named Desire. Be able to apply active reading strategies to effectively and insightfully read texts of similar difficulty, and answer reading comprehension questions.
Writing – Know how to write an organized essay (intro, body, conclusion, thesis, support); know how to quote from text; know elements of good writing, such as using active verbs, present tense, parallel structure and transitions; know how to introduce, cite and explain quotes; avoid mistakes like comma splice, possessives and misspelling key words; be ready to apply an effective in-class essay writing process (attacking the question, planning and proofreading your writing…)
Be able to read passages from literature as well as non-fiction texts, selecting effective supporting details, citing direct quotes, and writing accurate, analytical responses.
