Quarter Project Requirements:

Check:

______Traditional Book Report: You may write an essay, or do an oral presentation for the class. If you do an oral report, you must turn something in that you have written to help guide you through your oral presentation (at least one page - typed). In both written components, you must not give a plot summary. You must refer to the literary elements and techniques that the author used in the book: characterization, theme, setting, conflict, symbolism, etc. You must discuss at least five literary elements, and may not repeat any. The written report must be 2-3 pages long, and it must be typed. Failure to discuss any literary elements, and simply turning in a plot summary will result in a grade of no higher than 50%.

______Advertising Campaign: Design an advertising campaign to promote the sale of the book that was read. All of the bullets must be included for full credit. All writing components must be typed for full credit, and consideration for grading. Look in newspapers, magazines, on TV, etc. to get ideas to use as examples. COMPLETE ALL BULLETS FOR FULL CREDIT.

  • A poster advertising the movie – must be colorful and creative (poster board)
  • A radio or television commercial – type out what will be said. Must be 1 page long
  • Magazine or newspaper ad – With color and pictures
  • A bumper sticker. It should be the same size, and shape as a bumper sticker – logo for movie.

** All of these should represent the content of your book.**

______Map: If the book that you read involved a number of locations – at least 5 - 6 locations, within a country or geographical area, plot the events on a map that you make. Make sure that the map is large enough (think poster board here, not just computer paper) so that the events of the story can be seen and read. Your map should be drawn, not reproduced out of an atlas. Attach a legend at the bottom indicating the symbols and locations. On a separate sheet, TYPE a paragraph for each location (5-7 sentences each) explaining the importance of each location, and the significance of the location to the plot and the characters.

______Travel Brochure: Create a travel brochure to promote a trip to the setting of the novel that you read. Include illustrations and details to describe the setting of the book. Each flap of the brochure should have something written, or an illustration, picture, more or both on it. It must be colorful, creative, and appealing to the eye. This should be done on a computer, and should include pictures, captions, etc., just like you would find on a typical travel brochure. Look up a travel brochure to get an idea of what they look like and entail if you haven’t seen one!

______Poetry Collection: Write five - six poems that are inspired or about the novel that you read. The poems should somehow reflect the content, themes or emotions of your book. The total word count for the poems must be 250 – 300 words total. No haiku’s here! They must also be typed. Illustrations and pictures for the poems should also be included in the collection.

______Scaled Model / Diorama: Make a scaled model or a diorama of an important scene or object from the novel. With it, attach or hand in separately a one-page explanation of how and why this scene or object is important to the novel. Explanation must be typed.
