English III - Mrs. Mosley – 2017-2018

We will use a variety of literature, music, and film to explore life and ourselves. Titles we will explore come from our literature textbook and novels. Excerpts from additional sources will also be included along with much class discussion and personal reflection. Please be aware that vocabulary, grammar, and writing will be addressed weekly.

A composition notebook

Pens and pencils

One folder with brads and dividers

Notebook paper

Grading Policy:

50% Daily Assignments

50% Tests/Projects

Late Assignments:

Late work: 10 points off the earned grade each day the assignment is late. After three days the original assignment will not be accepted and an alternate, more time consuming assignment will be assigned. 30 points will be deducted from the alternate assignment’s earned grade.

Late work will not be accepted one week prior to the end of the six weeks.

Make-up Assignments: (absences due to illness or school sponsored events)

It is the student’s responsibility to come in before school or during iBreak to seek missed assignments due to absence from class. I am available in the mornings at 7:30 and during iBreak for missed instruction, quizzes, and tests.

Tutorials: I am typically available most days before school from 7:30-7:50 and during iBreak. Students must sign in when they come in for tutoring.

Bathroom Passes: I try to keep bathroom passes to a minimum so we can accomplish our goals as a class each day; however, I understand restroom needs. Please ask at an appropriate time.

Classroom Rules:

1.  Be in class and in your seat when the bell rings.

2.  Be on time with all supplies needed for class

3.  Cell phones must be placed in the classroom basket.

4.  Be courteous.

Academic Honesty

Most of the work you do in English III will be interpretive, creative, or analytical, so I hope that any issues regarding academic honesty will not become a problem this year. I ask that you do all of your own reading and writing, that you let me know honestly if you are falling behind so that I can help you recover.
