INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION

1. This question paper consists of THREE sections, namely SECTION A,

SECTION B and SECTION C.

SECTION A: Creative writing (50 marks)

SECTION B: Longer transactional texts (30 marks)

SECTION C: Shorter transactional texts (20 marks)

2. You are required to answer ONE question from EACH section.

3. Start EACH section on a NEW page.

4. Write neatly and legibly.

5. Pay attention to spelling, sentence construction and language.

6. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system used in this question paper.

7. It should be evident from each of the final texts that you have planned, proofread and edited your work.

SECTION A – COMPOSITION

Write a composition of 300-350 words about ONE of the topics given. You must hand in your planning and proof of editing.

Please write down the number of the heading you choose as well as the heading when you begin with your composition.

SECTION B – LONGER TRANSACTIONAL TEXT

Use 180-200 words.

  1. INFORMAL LETTER

You are 60 years old. Your old school is having their 50th reunion. Write a letter to your old school in which you share some of the memories you have about your young days in school

  1. FORMAL LETTER

Your local municipality decided to cut down all the trees in your street. Their reasons are that the trees spill too many leaves and the municipality can not keep up maintaining the trees. It would be cheaper in the long run to cut off the trees and they will make money selling the wood. Complain about this decision in your letter. Try to save the trees.

Write about ONE of the topics. Use 80-120 words.

Write a note to your teacher and explain why you were unable to complete your prepared speech.

3. Direction

Explain to someone how to get mixit on his/her cellphone and how mixit works.
