English Faculty Y10 in to Y11: Summer Task

  • Our first unit of work in Autumn of Y11 is Shakespeare
  • Your teacher will decide your play and let you know the text you will be studying
  • In preparation over Summer you need to complete Tasks 1-4 and produce your booklet of work to present in groups or to the class in the 1st week back
  • Task 5 and 6 need to be handed in to your teacher in your first lesson back

Tasks:

  1. Locate and read a synopsis of the key events in your play: there are 5 acts altogether (you can also watch versions of the play via youtube and Netflix) AO1
  2. Create a timeline of key events, organised in to the 5 separate acts AO1
  3. Identify 3 key characters and create ‘Character Profile’ pages for them: what they do, relationships with others, selection of quotes AO1
  4. Complete research on the historical context of the play: when it was written; the monarchy at the time and who was in power in society; social standards of living; religion and morality AO3
  5. For ONE character, write a paragraph of analysis on what you have learnt about them using the key stages we have worked on in Y10: point, evidence, explain meaning, layers of meaning, language, structure (AO1-3)
  6. Design and Create a Play Performance Poster that shows the themes of the play in words and/or images as well as advertises when and where to see it (AO3)
