- POLY – many
Polyglot (noun) – one who can speak or write several languages
Ex: I speak three different languages therefore I'm a polygot.
- PRIM – first
Primal (adj) – original; first in importance
Ex: Protecting our children is a universal primal instinct.
- HOM/HOMO – same; similar; alike
Homogeneous (adj) – of the same kind
Ex: The girl was a part of a close-knit homogeneous group, in that they all dressed alike, listened to same music, and enjoyed the same television shows/movies.
- DIS – apart
Dissension (noun) – disagreement in opinion
Ex: There is much dissension among the students who cannot agree on the new rules.
- VOR – eat
Voracious (adj) – having a huge appetite
Ex: The students were all fighting in the lunch line because of their voracious appetites.
- CARN – flesh
Carnage (noun) – great destruction of life
Ex: There was a great amount of carnage from the car accident.
- CRED – believe
Credence (noun) – mental acceptance of something as true or real
Ex: Because Betsy spent so much time gossiping, there was little credence in many of the stories she told about the other girls
- FID – faith
Perfidy (noun) – faithlessness, disloyalty, or treachery
Ex: He had a poor reputation; more known for acts of perfidy than for anything else.
- CURR/CURS – run
Concurrent (adj) – happening at the same time
Ex: All the sentences were to runconcurrent, meaning a total of 18 years
- PED – foot
Expedient (adj) – suitable for bringing about a desired result
Ex: I could have travelled by car, but found it more expedient to take the train.
