Course Description: Engineering Concepts is the second course in the engineering pathway. This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of engineering. Students learn about areas of specialization within engineering and engineering design and apply engineering tools and procedures as they complete hands-on instructional activities.
Course Prerequisites: Algebra I and Foundations of Engineering

** Students will be utilizing the VEX robotics curriculum provided by Intelitek.

Dress for Success:
The CTAE department will be promoting department-wide Professional Dress Days again this year. Students are expected to dress in casual business attire. This includes, but is not limited to, a shirt with a collar; black, blue or khaki slacks or skirts; professional shoes. Business attire does not include jeans, shorts, flip flops, or athletic shoes. Scrubs may be worn for appropriate classes. Students will have to wear this attire for the duration of the school day to receive credit. The grading of the Professional Dress will be at the discretion of the teacher.

•Three ring binder with pockets
•Writing utensil
•Paper
•USB/Flash drive
•Composition notebook
Classroom Expectations:
•Arrive to class on time with your book, notebook and other course materials.
•Give others your undivided attentions when addressing the class.
•Keep a record of all assignments and complete them on time.
•Learn to follow all school and classroom rules and understand the consequences.
•Develop an attitude that promotes learning in our classroom.
•Weekly assignments are to be kept in the notebook and will be graded each Friday.
Textbooks are not issued. Each students will have access to an in-class reference textbook and/or workbook to complete assignments. Generally, homework is not assigned, however throughout the duration of the year projects will be assigned, which may require some extra time outside of class. Occasionally, some materials will need to be purchased for the projects. Information concerning these supplies will be sent home at a later date.
Consequences for Misbehavior
•Verbal warning
•15 minutes detention and call to parent/guardian
•30 minute detention and call to parent/guardian
•Referral to discipline office
Late Assignments: NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED! If late work is accepted the highest grade that will be given for the late assignment is 70%. The teacher reserves the right to change this policy when unforeseen circumstances or personal hardships are the cause of the late assignment.
Make-up Policy
Students are responsible for making up any missed assignments. Students must make up missed assignments the next class day. Each day it is late 10 points will be taken off. Failure to make up work within five days will result in a “0” for that assignment.
CTAE Bring Your Own Technology Policy: Students enrolled in courses that meet in a computer lab are expected to complete assignments using the computers provided in the classroom. Students may not use their “personal technology” to complete these assignments. Other CTAE teachers may allow or require use of technology devices in their classrooms on an as needed basic. Teachers reserve the right to determine when technology must be put away.
