/ Every Child Matters Every Day
At Officer Primary School we hold the following values – the four “R’s” for all members of the school community.
  • RESPONSIBILITY
  • RESPECT
  • RESILIENCE
  • RELATIONSHIPS
As a staff, we make a commitment in 2016 to make these core values part of our explicit teaching on a routine basis.
We invite parents as well to engage in teaching and living by these values.

Date: Friday 11th March, 2016

FIRST DAY OF TERM 2 IS TUESDAY 12TH APRIL

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Parents and Friends of OPS;

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

All families should have received notification of arrangements for Parent Teacher Interviews which will be held on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd March. Requests for an interview appointment are due back on Tuesday15th March, as staff will be meeting to allocate appointments on Wednesday 16th March and appointment times will be forwarded to families on Thursday 17th March. If you have not received information about the interviews please see your child’s class teacher or visit our administration for a copy of the notice.

Our staff are keen to meet with all families and share information about each student’s progress and goals for their future learning.

CLEAN UP DAY THANKYOU

On Saturday we had a dedicated group of people who gave up their time to assist with a clean-up of our yard in preparation for our Birthday Celebrations.

Thank you to:

Michael, Melissa, William and Nicholas Ball

Ian, Jude, Maddelynn and Jacob Edwards

Gavin, Kerryn and Layla Knight

Melissa and Thomas Holden

Phil Reynolds

This small team of people completed weeding, mulching of garden beds, pressure cleaning of the paved areas in Centenary Gardens and removal of the logs from the front of the school. The grounds looked great when we all arrived at school on Monday morning! Great effort!

130TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Plans are well underway for the celebration of our 130th birthday with the focus being on providing an opportunity for families to come together to enjoy each other’s company while their children participate in a mix of old-style schoolyard activities and some birthday party fun on the jumping castles! There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available for purchase and the formal cutting and sharing of the birthday cake will take place at 5:30pm in our assembly area at the front of the school.

During the afternoon session of the school day the classes will assemble in their house teams to listen to some history about the school delivered by an Officer local, Rob Porter. We also hope to have some additional visitors who will represent local families after whom our house teams are named. We are encouraging students to dress in their house colours for the day.

We look forward to sharing this special evening with you all!

EASTER HAT PARADE –THURSDAY 24TH MARCH

The annual Easter Bonnet Parade is somewhat of a tradition at Officer Primary School with all students taking part. As some parents have been keen to find out if the parade will be going ahead I thought that it would be a good idea to give families advance notice so that they will have time to prepare their creations. The paradewill go ahead on the last day of term, Thursday 24th March, with our plans being to hold it first thing in the morning and then follow it with our final assembly for the term.

If you are stuck for some simple ideas some inspiration can be found on the internet. One useful site that I was able to find was at I am sure that there are many more!

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE & AGM

Next Wednesday we will have our first meeting of our new School Council which will include the election of office bearers for 2016. We are still seeking one additional Parent Member of School Council to fill a one year casual vacancy. If you are interested or would like to know more about this position please feel free to contact me.

We will also hold our Annual General Meeting with the presentation of the Annual Report for 2015. This presentation will commence at 7:30pm and run for approximately half an hour. Any interested parents are invited to attend, although I request that you let us know that you are coming so that we can cater for seating.

The Annual Report will be made available for all families via the website next term.

REMINDER OF IMPORTANT DATES

Families are reminded that the last day of Term 1 is Thursday 24th March. In line with our usual practice for the end of term, students will be dismissed at 2:30pm. Please note that Term 2 will commence on Tuesday 12th April as all staff will be participating in a School Council approved Curriculum Day on Monday 11th April focused on Maths.

Enjoy your long weekend!
