JOB IDENTIFICATION

TITLE:SEAMS Mentor Level 1

REPORTS TO:SEAMS Mentor Level 2/ Level 3/ Management

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part or Full Time

JOB OBJECTIVE

  • To deliver Heartlift’s quality service mentoring young people and vulnerable adults.
  • To work with people who would benefit from Spiritual, Emotional and Mental and Social Development or those who are simply needing supply to enhance their life and develop further.
  • To empower them to live and love life.
  • To enhance their skills and development and meet their specific needs.
  • To offer a tailor made, bespoke package to suit each individual.
  • To act in a caring and professional manner.
  • To always act in the best interest of those concerned.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

Essential –

  • To have an appreciation that we are a Christian Charity and that our ethos is founded on the Christian values and principles.
  • To have a willingness to ensure that any spiritual development opportunities are encouraged and supported via direct help or signposting to other Christian organisations and local churches.
  • GCSE qualifications – 3 minimum.

Desirable –

  • Qualifications in courses specific to the job, for example, working with young children with challenging behaviour, de-escalation and restraint, first aid, safeguarding, etc…

Communication / The ability to communicate and engage with patience and clarity with a wide range of individuals and groups. The ability to have a non-judgemental approach and attitude.
Team Work / The ability to work alongside other members of staff and volunteers.
Safeguarding / To be able to identify Safeguarding issues in any given situation and to act immediately in accordance with Heartlift Safeguarding Policy.
Problem Solving / The ability to assess and address situations as they happen. The ability to evaluate and set systems to manage problems in conjunction with Heartlift procedures. The ability to liaise with other staff when in doubt.
Self-Management / The ability to work independently, responsibly and in accordance with Heartlift policies, procedures and training.
Planning and Organising / The willingness and ability to take responsibility for planning session in advance.To ensurethat relevant Risk Assessments are done. To work in an organised manner. To ensure that all planning takes into account the bespoke service that Heartliftoffers to meet our service user’s needs. To ensure that prior to working with any service user, that you are fully up to date before commencing any work.
Technology and Functional Skills / To have IT skills sufficient to meet the job expectation. To use email communication and other forms of technology as and when needed. To ensure that spelling, punctuation and grammar are sufficient to meet the job expectation in regards to liaising with other professionals. To be able to take clear and concise notes and minutes of meetings. To ensure professional communication with others.
Competencies Continued:
Learning / To seek out continued external professional development. To welcome continued internal professional development training offered by Heartlift. To welcome staff appraisal reviews, monitoring and feedback. To endeavour to grow in knowledge and skill. To carry out any relevant training required.
Financial Management / To have an awareness that we are a charity and that any monies spent must be reasonable, justifiable and approved by Management where required.
Initiative and Enterprise / To appreciate that Hearlift is a unique service which often requires initiative to be used to empower people to reach their potential. To understand that flexibility is key to success. This flexibility needs to be used to meet needs, to benefit a person’s development and growth and to always be done in accordance with Heartlift policies and good practice.
Leadership and Management / To mentor SEAMS Level 1 and 2 staff and help them to develop their skills by shadowing sessions and providing written feedback. To support Management and take responsibility for colleagues with less experience.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:SEAMS Level 2 and 3 Mentors / Office Management

Supervises:Volunteers and Work Experience placements.

ORGANISATIONAL AUTHORITY

Decisions made in the position:

Authorised to prepare all work, deliver 1-2-1 and group sessions and undertake Risk Assessments. To identify Safeguarding concerns and raise them in accordance with the Heartlift Safeguarding Policy.

Decisions referred:

Home visits, file reviews, financial decisions and timetable changes.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Employees are responsible and accountable for:

  • Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Active participation in activities associated with the management of the workplace health and safety.
  • Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attending meetings.
  • Liaising with colleagues and referring when in case of doubt.
  • Communication with Management.
  • Responsibility for adhering to the timetable.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy workplace.
  • General housekeeping of the building.
  • Compliance with Fire Procedures and making service users aware of the relevant procedures.
  • Ensuring that all documentation is filed correctly.
  • Following all Heartlift Policies and Procedures.
