Introduction

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Employment pathways newsletter. The aim of this newsletter is to share information and celebrate the success of our young people in their development towards independence.

Developing Employer Engagement

We are extremely proud to announce that to date over 170 of our students have accessed work placements this academic year. We are currently engaging with over 30 employers who offer experience in many different sectors in line with student’s long term career goals.

Fair Train Accreditation

QAC have successfully achieved the Bronze Standard level for their Work Experience provision. The Fair Train Work Experience Quality Standard accreditation means that the College has met the necessary requirements to gain an external quality assurance for high quality work experience and employability provision.

Co-op Stirchley

Co-op Stirchley have provided a number of placements this year. Two of our hospitality students and one of our PFL students have been working in the kitchens whilst one of our Creative Media Students wanted to gain experience shelf stacking and providing customer service on the shop floor. All Students have really enjoyed their placements and learnt a lot about working in the sector

CP Midlands

One of our IT students has completed a placement at CP Midlands which involved creating posters and social media adverts. He received excellent feedback and made a fantastic impression. He was given a box of Roses to thank him for his hard work and dedication!

Onneley House

One of our Health and Social Care students is completing a placement at Onneley House which offers a day centre for Age UK. The placement includes serving clients and assisting in activities. The student also takes the lead in the bingo game, calling the numbers and giving out prizes. She is developing her communication skills as well as her care skills.

Holbeache Farm

A group of our students attend Holbeache Farm each week where they carry out general maintenance, gardening, cleaning and feeding of animals. They attend the placement in all weathers and never complain about getting stuck in!

Interserve

One of our Supported Internship students is working in the post room at Inter-serve. This includes sorting incoming and outgoing post, recording special deliveries and distributing post to various departments. It’s a huge organisation and he is learning the location of different department as well as developing his confidence and communication skills.
