Employment Law and Health & Safety legislation 2017: free event

Peninsula provide professional services to small businesses across the UK. They are offering this free event covering the upcoming changes to Employment Law and Health and Safety legislation for 2017. The seminar is aimed at Practice Managers, Business Owners, Proprietors, Directors and Senior Decision makers only.

Topics include: managing staff behaviour, updating documents of employment, the new National Living Wage requirements, the new tougher health and safety penalties and HR.

The event will be held at the Rivenhall Hotel, Rivenhall End, Witham, CM8 3HB on Thursday 13th July, 9.30 am – 12.45 pm, followed by a free lunch

Website Grant Opportunity

White Fuse Media are a company that specialises in websites for charities since 2008. They are now offering a grant scheme for small charities to get a website for free. The grant is designed to provide assistance to small organisations who can’t afford their standard fees.

An invitation to join the Essex Social Investment Readiness Programme for charities and social enterprises

On 19th May 2017 at the Bridge to Social Investment event SEEE launched the Essex Social Investment Readiness Programme. This programme seeks to raise awareness of social investment opportunities in Essex and increase readiness of organisations to access these opportunities. This programme is supported by Essex Partnership and will start in September 2017.

The programme aims for participants to:

  • Increase their knowledge of and access to investment providers
  • Improve their capacity to take up opportunities
  • Develop skills and confidence
  • Develop services which meet local needs and generate income

This programme is open to 20 organisations that fulfil the following application criteria:

  • Is a social enterprise, charity, or a public service with plans to spin out
  • Operates mainly in Essex (including Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock)
  • Is at least two years old with accounts for this period
  • Has an annual turnover of at least £100,000
  • Generates at least 25% of income from trading
  • Seeks to capture impact, is planning to grow, and is collaborative in its approach
  • Can secure approval from its governing body (board) to explore ’social investment as an option

The programme will run from September 2017 to March 2018. It will be led by a core tutor with support from various external speakers to deliver a range of monthly workshops at Anglia Ruskin University’s Chelmsford campus and a virtual learning platform will be used to support learning.

Applications will be considered from w/c 17th July 2017, with successful applicants notified by 28th July 2017.

Colne Community Builders Fund

Colne Community Builders Fund is now accepting applications. The Fund supports charitable projects and community organisations whose work enables people to live more independently.

There is a preference for smaller grants, for example under £35,000, and for groups that work in areas where Colne Housing operates - Babergh, Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester, Maldon, Tendring and Uttlesford.

An example of a project previously supported is Bright Lives, in Colchester, which was awarded £32,000 to train a regional Makaton Tutor to work with the adults who attend a day centre for people with Learning Difficulties.

Cyber Security Session

Chelmsford Centre Supporting Voluntary Action is hosting a Cyber Security Session on Tuesday 4th July at their offices in Coval Lane, Chelmsford, CM1 1FW between 10am and 12.30pm. Their Guest speaker is Dean Taylor, Managing Security Consultant for BT Global Services

Voluntary Sector Training

In-house training discount for August

VST have some availability in the last two weeks in August and are able to offer 15% discount on their normal prices for In-house training booked in this period.

Topics offered are Lone Working, Safeguarding, Conflict Management, Handling Aggressive Behaviour, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Setting Professional Boundaries, Mental Health Awareness, Healthy Eating, Skills for Living with Differences and even Team Building using Bushcraft Skills.
