Sprint Snowshoe Racing

Sprinting Events: The 2015 edition of the Empire State Games will feature three distances to be run on a 4-lane 300 meter oval track at the Paul Smith’s College soccer field. The Paul Smith’s College soccer field is located just off SR 86, approximately ¼ mile from the main campus. The 100, 400, and 800-meter events will all be competed as timed finals, generally by age group. All attempts will be made to place the competitors with other athletes of similar abilities within their respective age groups.

Competitors will stay in their respective lanes for the 400 meter until they reach the 200 meters. At this point, the athletes can break for the inside lane. A staggered start will be used for the 400 meters.

For the 800-meter event, it is highly likely that age groups will be combined. Athletes will use a waterfall start, and all are allowed to break for lane one once it is safe to do so.

Medals will be awarded for the sprints immediately following the conclusion of the 400 meters on site (at the soccer field) if the weather allows. If the day features inclement weather, the snowshoe sprint awards will be distributed in the Saunders Sports Complex, providing competitors and spectators access to locker rooms, showers, and warmth.

DistanceEvent – 5K

5K Cross Country Snowshoe Event: The 5K Cross Country Snowshoe Race will be a mass start, using the same course as the 2014 Empire State Games snowshoe race. The start and finish will be near the Visitor’s Interpretive Center’s main lodge.

5K Snowshoeing Empire State Games Awards: The presentation of 5K snowshoe awards will take place in the Main Lodge at the Visitors Interpretive Center once the final competitor is finished. This should be at or near 3 PM.
