Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Heber Primary School!
This booklet has been written for families of children who join usafter the usual starting age in Reception.
Please also look at the school website, which gives more detailed information.
This guidance tells you what you and your children will need to know to make the most of education here with us.
We do hope the booklet is useful. Please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we can improve it.

A buddy will be allocated to your child to help them settle in
You will have a chance to meet your child’s class teacher at Parents’ Conferences. Dates of Parent Conferences and all other events are contained in the weekly Newsletter which is emailed to parents or sent home in a book bag.
Please sign up to Parent Mail in the office to get Newsletters and letters home via email.
The School Day
Nursery & Reception are known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Year 1 and 2 are known as Key Stage One (KS1)
Years 3 to 6 are known as Key Stage Two (KS2)
Nursery (has two sessions – morning: 8.45 to 11.45 and afternoon 12.30 to 3.30. Children must be dropped off and picked up at the Nursery door.

At the start of the day, children in KS1 and KS2 are collected from the play ground by the class teachers. It is very important that children are on time. At the end of the day, Key Stage 1and Key Stage 2children should be collected from the playground by an authorised adult. Please let the school know if your child/children will be late or absent, or if a different person will be collecting them.
Children in Year 5 and Year 6 can go home on their own if the school receives written permission from you.
Gumboots Breakfast Cluband After School Child Care
This serviceprovides child care both before and after school. It is a service open to all children. There is a fee payable for this service. There may be a waiting list for places.
Breakfast clubopens at 7.30 am.
The After School Service runs from the end of the school day until 6.30 pm.
Term and Holiday dates can be found on the school’s website. Term-time holidays arestrictly not permitted. Please contact either head teacher if there are exceptional circumstances
Behaviour
Good behaviour is positively encouraged. We ask children to follow the school’s code of conduct which is clearly displayed around the school and the Behaviour Policy which is on the website.Children’s behaviour, effort and achievement is celebrated at the weekly merit assemblies
Curriculum
Termly bulletins giving details of the current curriculum for each year group.
Values
We have three school values. We actively encourage pupils be thoughtfulin all that they do, to show resilience academically and socially, and to take responsibility for their actions.
Physical Education (PE)
Children need to wear white T-shirts, blue shorts or track suit bottoms and trainers. Please ensure that your child has everything they need.
Religious Education (RE) and Assembly
Children learn about different religious beliefs and practices. If you want to withdraw your child from RE please contact either of the Head teachers
Sex Education
This is taught as part of part of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). Again if you want to withdraw your child from Sex Education please contact either of the Head teachers.
Homework
Your child/children will be given homework regularly.Please support this important work and make sure it is returned on time.Further details are included in each year group’s curriculum bulletin.
Additional support
Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)will be carefully assessed and their support will be managed by the Inclusion Manager. It is very important that you share relevant information with the school about your child, including any medical needs or additional diagnoses. Do copy any previous reports etc. to the Inclusion Manager. The more we know about your child, the better we can prepare for their positive settling in at Heber.
School meals
Hot, healthy food (including vegetarian options) is available every day. Children are not charged for meals.
Children are provided with fruit at break times. Nursery and Reception also receive milk if they wish.
We are a nut-free school. Some children and adults within the school suffer from severe nut allergies.
Uniform: School Uniform is available from the Office
Jewellery: Jewellery should not be worn. If your child has pierced ears, they may wear studs.
Valuables: Children should not bring valuables into school. Children in Year 5 and 6 who carry mobile phones may leave them in the office
Emergencies
Please inform the school of any changes in contact details, in case there is an emergency.
