Course Content and Description:

This course has been designed to cover chapters one through nine of the algebra 2 textbook. For a comprehensive curriculum map please see the teacher’s website.

Calculators: A calculator is needed for this course. Bradford Area School District will provide a graphing calculator the student to use during class. Students will be assigned a calculator and it will be their responsibility daily to make sure that the calculator is returned to the assigned sleeve before and after class. If you choose to bring your own calculator it is still your responsibility to make sure that the calculator that has been assigned to you is in the proper sleeve before and after class.

Notebooks: All students are required to have a notebook. If it is on the board, it should be put into your notes. An organized notebook will serve as a valuable resource when completing assignments and for studying for quizzes and tests. Your notebook should be divided into the following sections; Bell Ringers, Class Notes, Homework. You may want to get a binder to help with the organization of your notes.

Grading: Lettergrades will be assigned according to the Bradford Area School District Grading scale and policy. Student grades for each marking period will be determined using the following scale.

Tests – 45%, Quizzes – 35%, Projects – 10%, Homework – 10%

Tests and Quizzes: Tests and quizzes will be given on every chapter. Expect at least one quiz a week and a maximum of two tests during each nine weeks. Quizzes may not always be announced before hand.

Retakes: No retakes shall be given. If you receive a grade you feel is unsatisfactory, please see the teacher before or after school to discuss.

Projects: There will be multiple projects completed throughout the course to explore/demonstrate thestudent’s knowledge of algebra. These projects will be completed primarily in class, but students may be asked to complete a project outside of the classroom.

Homework: Assignments will be given on a daily basis. All assignments are due the day after they are assigned unless otherwise noted. The completion of homework is an essential component to mastering mathematical skills and concepts, and is a vital element to your overall success. Homework assignments will be graded (on a ten point scale) based on the amount of effort put forth toward each assignment. Any assignment not completed will receive a zero. Assignment may be turned late for partial credit. Once the test on that material has been given, the assignment may no longer be made up.

Make-ups: If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to find out what work you have missed. This should be done before the start of school. Any missed assignments must still be completed and turned in, in a timely manner. Make-up of tests and quizzes must be done within 10 days of returning to school, if not the students will receive a zero for that assessment.

Academic Dishonesty: Any student that is caught cheating in any way will receive a “0” on that particular assignment. Students that are caught a second time are subject to disciplinary action.

Class cuts – It is school policy that any student who cuts class shall receive a zero for any assignment on that day. This includes homework, tests, quizzes, or any other graded assignment.
