Description:
This course is designated to provide a hands-on opportunity for students to learn responsible work habits while producing items for publication. Students learn newspaper fundamentals such as writing, editing, design, layout, and ethics.
Materials Needed:
Students must have the following to participate in the class:
- A writing utensil
-1 Composition notebooks (not a spiral)
All materials are due Tuesday, September 3, 2013
Student Expectations:
1) Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings
2) Come prepared with all of your materials
3) Respect yourself and everything around you
4) Obey all school rules
5) Have fun and give your all
Tutoring Schedule:
I am available for after school tutorials by appointment only.
SWIM Camp:
SWIM - Student Work is Mandatory means simply that all students are expected
to turn in class work, homework, tests, projects, etc. SWIM gives students the
opportunity to complete assignments that are missing in order to maintain a
competitive grade point average. SWIM is open Monday -Friday from 3:00 until
the assignment is complete.
Attendance:
It is essential that you are in class and on time everyday. Multiple absences can result in undesirable grades. If you are absent on the day an assignment (daily grade) is due, the assignment is expected to be turned in the following school day or upon your return to the school. The assignment must be handed to me and not sent via friends. If you are absent on the day that a project (test grade) is due, the assignment is due that day whether you are in class or not. In the event of extenuating circumstances, a parent or guardian must contact me on the day of the absence. I DO NOT accept late assignments.
Academic Honesty:
When you submit work for this class, that is the same as making a statement that you have produced the work yourself, in its entirety. Plagiarism, Copyright infringement, and similar use of other people’s work are unacceptable. Plagiarism is using other people’s written words as your own. Be sure to include citations when using other people’s writing because plagiarism is a serious offense in any class, especially in journalism. It’s a firing offense in the professional world and I take it VERY SERIOUSLY in my class. Students can face a range of penalties for plagiarism, so just don’t do it!
