Accommodation
- Young people are offered accommodation within householders’ homes. In addition, householders will offer support and guidance in life-skills development.
- All young people are allocated a Support Co-ordinator from the support worker team, who will assess support needs and compile support plans based on a user-led approach. Support plans are used to set targets whereby individual young people can take a step-by-step approach to achieving independence.
- Staff work in partnership with other agencies/professionals to meet individual needs.
- Rules are usually negotiated between the householder, Supported Lodgings and the young person to reach an amicable arrangement.
- Accommodation can be provided for up to 2 years, dependent on need.
Resettlement/Rehousing
Supported Lodgings works jointly with agencies to help the Young Person move on in to accommodation. Reconciliation work with family can be undertaken if desired.

Application Procedure
- Self-Referral
Can be completed in person or via telephone. Individuals are provided with information regarding the service and if the individual wishes to continue, a referral form will be completed and a mutually convenient date will be booked for an initial meeting/interview to take place within 7 days. Background checks may be completed for risk assessment purposes.
- Via Social Services/Other Agencies/Professionals
Referral forms will be sent and, once in receipt of a completed referral, Supported Lodgings may conduct background checks for risk assessment purposes. All referrals will be discussed amongst the team and a decision reached. If a referral is successful, an initial meeting/interview will be arranged within 7 days. Unsuccessful applicants will be informed, in writing, of the reasons for the decision and will be provided with details of the appeals procedure and a list of alternative accommodation providers.
- Initial Meeting
The initial meeting is utilised to assess an individual’s suitability and incorporates risk assessment and self-assessment of support needs. Interviews normally take place within the Supported Lodgings office; however, they can be conducted at referring agencies’ offices, colleges, schools or any other venue appropriate for the young person.Unsuccessful applicants will receive, in writing, the reasons for the decision, details of the appeals procedure, and a list of alternative accommodation providers. Successful applicants will be matched to a suitable householder or placed on the waiting list. Prioritisation is dependent upon the needs of the individual and a suitable match being identified with a householder, eghousehold type, gender issues, location of householder.
- Successful Applicants
Once a suitable householder has been identified, Supported Lodgingswill arrange an informal meeting with the individual and the householder, when they can get to know each other and discuss house arrangements, etc. Individuals are then contacted the following day to ascertain whether they wish to move in, arrange another meeting with the householder or decline the placement and be placed back on the waiting list to await a more suitable householder.
