  • The stand-alone writing prompt (K-5) and the math pre/post test (1st-5th) have been approved for Measure B
  • For first grade - teachers should read the directions and questions ONLY on the week skills test, not passages and choices. Follow the directions on the tests; reading test questions are slowing removed as the year progresses.
  • More training on writing rubrics is necessary. Must have anchor papers. Possible to use some examples from Smarter Balance. Do the TBW, and bring samples.
  • Kathy has talked to Instructional coaches…they will be talking with principals regarding spending more time in PLC’s with the writing rubrics. Component V has taken a lot of PLC time thus far this year. We need to build in time for writing rubric training and scoring so teachers feel more comfortable before parent conferences and report cards.
  • There is a HUGE concern about the vast number of common assessments (across all content areas) and amount of time required to score and input this data. The concern is two-fold, both students are losing out on instructional time, and teachers are very stressed about grading and inputting data. Teachers could be spending more time planning and implementing good instruction, instead of assessing. “You can’t fatten the pig by constantly weighing it.” These were the assessments chosen by the assessment committee. This will be addressed when the assessment committee meets again this year.
