ELA Project 1: Parts of Speech Due Friday, October 7, 2016

Our Third Graders have been learning Parts of Speech. As we bring our unit to an end, I have developed a project that will show the students’ mastery. The project has been setup in steps (checkpoints). Each checkpoint will be graded on its due date.

The Project:

The students will creatively present Acrostic Poems.

Due Friday (September 23) Which adjective best describes you?

Write the letters of your name down the left side of a sheet of paper. Then write an adjective beginning with each letter that describes something special about you.

Example:

E - Enthusiastic

L- Lavish

R - Rational

O – Optimistic

D - Diligent

Due Friday (September 30) Tell me more…

Use the adjectives to write sentences about yourself. Be sure to use nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adverbs. Be sure to identify the adjectives in BOLD (circle or underline).

Example:

Mrs. Elrod is a very enthusiastic teacher.

Her teaching style is rare, or atypical. She gives each student lavish attention.

She always has a rational attitude and is optimistic about learning.

I love that she is always diligent in doing her job.

Due Friday, October 7, 2016 Label your parts…

Label the parts of speech in each sentence the best you can: This should be turned in on the paper given to each student (construction paper).

Mrs. Elrod / is / a / very / enthusiastic / Teacher. / Her
Proper Noun / verb / article / adverb / adjective / noun / pronoun

Due Friday (October 7, 2016) Putting it all together…

Make a poster with your completed poem. You DO NOT need to label the parts. Just simply make a poster with your final poem. Be creative. Be descriptive. Have fun.
