EHS Baseball Booster Club Meeting Minutes:
October 17, 2016 at 7:00 PM (Emmaus High School, Rm 357)
Present: Coach Mihalik, Gayle Cichocki, Dawn Lynch, Linda Gery, Andy Moxey, Allison Moxey, Melissa Shaner, Staci Foley, Chris Foley, David Hahn, Marianne Alliston, Bill Marushak and Bill Capwell
Secretary Report (Linda Gery):
September meeting minutes were posted on the website. Motion to approve by Staci, seconded by Marianne. Minutes approved.
Treasurer’s Report (Dawn Lynch):
2016/17 Income Statement and Budget was updated and distributed for review. See highlighted items below. The budget will be voted on at the November meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
· Golf Tournament Wrap-up – Thank you notes were handed out to players to deliver to our supporters. Some suggestions for next year include: more interaction from the boys, have boards to post the results, reconsider the raffle being held beforehand-it made things a bit congested at registration.
· Batting Cage Update – Estimates came in a bit higher than anticipated (lowest was $28,000; without turf and cage). More details in Coach’s Report below.
· Lifting/Weight Room – Other groups are pitching in towards the cost of renovations. The new design was tailored to football workouts and we were content with existing facilities, also weare beginning acapital campaign of our own for covered batting cages. Therefore we have decided to not include it into our budget.
· Budget Discussion – We ran through each line item again and discussed the changes that were made:
o Income – Sponsorship stays the same and hope for 5x$700, should be able to get most of the same ones (Bill will help with better sign placement). Pancake breakfast was very successful last year, especially with the raffle. Spring trip cost/player will remain the same. Weis/Giant gift cards will be emphasized…any suggestions on how to build interest are welcome.
o Expenses – A line items of $5,000 was added in to go towards the batting cages. One coach had donated their stipend back to the program-will be put towards equipment expenses.
NEW BUSINESS
· Miracle League – Do we need clearances for participation? Upcoming opportunity to consider is the Holiday Party on December 17th.
· National Corporate Sponsors – We had attempted to get several on board for our Golf Tournament, did not get a good response.
· Weis/Giant gift cards (Staci Foley) – Inventory has been consolidated again because it was becoming difficult to track. During the season there will be parents from both varsity and JV with cards to sell. Currently only about 8 families are consistently buying-will try monthly email reminders, ask Angel Network if they want to purchase cards through us, include in HS newsletter?
· Sponsors/Pledging (Bill Marushak) – Bill had talked with Mark Lanzone last season to brainstorm an idea. Possibility of having the players get pledges for team performance (team numbers, not individuals): strikeouts, homeruns, wins, etc. Maybe split donations between Booster & Miracle League (in place of lifting event)? Coach mentioned PledgeIt.com as a site to set up and track. We would need volunteers to oversee, Bill suggested giving the task to a senior or maybe ask Tyler Kish. Concern if it may conflict with the Letter Campaign.
· Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast – We will wait to see the season schedule and Allison can book a date.
· Booster Meetings – 2nd Monday of the month seems to work the best
· Open Committee Chair Positions – Miracle League, Annual Sponsorship, Meet the Player, Spring Trip, Away Games, Pancake Breakfast, Election, Senior Day, Youth Day
Coach’s Report (Mike Mihalik):
· Coach’s Clinic – Camps are scheduled for 11/5 (at LMMS) and 11/12 (at EHS).
· Winter Lifting – Coach is looking into using the facilities at St. Luke’s and will send out info as soon as details are finalized.
· Batting Cages – Coach would like to see 100ft, 2 tunnel, closed building with turf. As mentioned before, the estimates are pretty high and the school district has not yet approved a location-ideally to be placed at Emmaus High School. Maybe ask softball for help or check with EYA/LMYA to share? We are in the fact-finding stage of investigating the options for coveredbatting cages. We have not yet approached the district with options or requests. More info to follow.
Next meeting: November 14th at 7 PM, EHS Room 357
