EGGER well positioned with laminate flooring products

Next to decorative and constructive wood products, laminate flooring has been the third supporting leg of the EGGER Group since 1996

The EGGER Group with its head office in St. Johann, Tyrol, has positioned itself as a full-range supplier of wood products. With a production capacity of 80 million square meters of laminate flooring annually at the two German plants in Brilon and Wismar, the wood product manufacturer has increased its market share to 13 percent. EGGER especially emphasises sustainability in its production processes.

In manufacturing its wood products, EGGER draws on expertise from all product fields. Synergy effects and comprehensive investments over the last few years have made EGGER one of the leading suppliers of laminate flooring in Europe. At the production plant in Wismar on the Baltic Sea, EGGER employs the classic DPL (direct pressure laminate) production process. EGGER has been producing laminate flooring using the innovative direct printing process in Brilon since 2006.

FLOORING MADE OF WOOD – A RENEWABLE RAW MATERIAL

EGGER emphasises environmentally friendly production for all its products. This is why the wood used to make EGGER laminate flooring comes from PEFC-certified sustainable forestry in Europe. Under this programme, a new tree is planted for each one that is used. EGGER has its own biomass generating plants, which are used to generate energy from wood unsuitable for production.

The flooring raw material consists of dried wood chips. These are combined with resins and binding agents and then pressed into high-density core boards which are particularly resistant to swelling. The core boards are then processed and finished using the classic DPL or the innovative DPR process.

VIRTUALLY UNLIMITED DESIGN OPTIONS

Laminate flooring that comes off the production line in Wismar is produced using the so-called DPL process (direct pressure laminate). Printed papers impregnated with special resins give the flooring its unique appearance. The decor is pressed onto the core board along with the suitable structure using a combination of high pressure and high temperature. High-quality EGGER laminate flooring is ready for installation after the milling of tongues and grooves followed by packaging.

The design options for decorative papers are virtually unlimited. As a result, this process is suitable for mimicking numerous looks and materials. Stone, metal and also fantasy designs are popular in addition to the appearance of wood.

DPR – THE NEXT GENERATION OF LAMINATE FLOORING

EGGER has been using the direct printing process (DPR) to manufacture flooring in Brilon since 2006. Up to 250 planks leave the production line per minute, which corresponds to a floor area of 62 square meters.

The colours and texture of the flooring are rolled and printed directly onto the base panels in several layers. Solvent-free coating systems set the colours, give the flooring the desired structure and create a durable finish.

Flooring made using this efficient production process feels particularly warm and soft. It is also especially quiet.
