EFT CASE STUDY GUIDELINES

Requirements:

  • One case study taken on self or a client
  • Cases undertaken on two separate clients
  • Each case study must contain a minimum of 4 sessions, submitting a total of 12 sessions
  • If the issue is healed with the client before the 4 sessions are up then additional sessions will need to be completed on additional clients
  • The self case study can be substituted for another client

Even though the Practitioner’s written up notes are detailed the case studies are to be summarised.

Skills that are being looked for:

  • Have rapport using Level 3 listening skills, being fully present for the client ensuring facilitation rather than giving advice or mentoring
  • Use of questioning skills to understand the issue and connection with emotional hooks, past events and progress during the session. For example,

What is the issue?

How is that a problem? Tell me more

When does it start? Stop?

Where in the body is the tension? How does that make you feel?

After tapping rounds as needed – what happened? How do you feel now? What is the number now? What is the sensation in the body?

  • How is the Practitioner getting the information?

Is the client’s body language being noticed?

Is this being interpreted to inform the Practitioner of the client’s emotions?

  • Is the Practitioner keeping the client safe by awareness of:

Using the client’s words

Being respectful of the client in all ways

Keeping them non-judgemental.

  • Does the Practitioner practise their own Personal Peace Procedure? As this ensures bringing a clear energy to the session enabling them to:

Be aware that thoughts “colour” situations

The client’s issues are theirs and not the Practitioner’s.

  • Does the Practitioner notice any projections or counter transferences taking place?
  • Is the Practitioner using the SUDs levels regularly and correctly?
  • Is the Practitioner fully aware of ‘aspects’?
  • Is the Practitioner moving fluidly with each aspect as it comes up

i.e. not staying with fear when the client has moved into sadness?

  • Is the Practitioner going to specific events in the client’s life as this is necessary to get the best results?
  • Is the Practitioner emphasising that every feeling is an old feeling and the current issue just a trigger?
  • If so is the Practitioner finding the 1st time the client felt this feeling?
  • Is the Practitioner going with the client and their beliefs or are they putting on their own interpretations?
  • Is the Practitioner finding links with past events and beliefs with the presenting problem?
  • Is the Practitioner testing/testing/testing to see if the emotion is released?
  • Is the Practitioner being ‘present’ at all times in the session giving their client full connection and focus?
  • Is the Practitioner being aware of the ‘clock’ time and 10 minutes from the end mentioning there is 10 minutes left in order to prepare the client’s subconscious and avoid any new issues arising?

What techniques were used when (use the skills appropriate to the client session – which can vary session by session)? For example:

Tell the story

Continuous tapping

Movie technique

Tearless trauma

Aspects uncovered

Limiting beliefs – palace of possibilities

Pain relief

Sub-modalities

Cravings protocol

Direct approach

Sneaking up on a problem

Key word approach

Specific questions or techniques used to get to the core issue

One point tapping

Emphasising the negative

Argument tapping

Surrogate tapping

After each Session:

At the end of each session jot down brief notes which will enable you to write detailed notes later for your records and give yourself time for self-reflection.

  • How did I do?
  • What could I have done better?
  • What could I have used more of?
  • Where did it work well?
  • What did I fall down on, what was the reason for this?

This is to enable you to grow with each session, in awareness and skill.

For writing up the Case Studies for assessment

  • Do not go into details of the ‘events’ but name the emotion and summarise the techniques used bearing in mind the above, which is what is being looked for and assessed.
  • Give an overall summary from the 1st session to the 4th session noting the progress made this is bearing in mind:

For the client

For the Practitioner.

Recommended session times

For those who are completely new to EFT recommend 1.5 hours. For those who are feeling more confident recommend 1 hour sessions.
