What is Core Plan?

CIHI’s Core Plan subscription is available to Canadian health care facilities and regional health authorities through a bilateral agreement between CIHI and ministries of health. This subscription offers access to a range of CIHI’s products and services, such as technical manuals, reports and publications, and education courses. CIHI’s products and services included in the Core Plan subscription are available at no extra cost, up to a maximum entitlement. For more information, please visit the Core Plan page.

What is Core Plan pooling?

Facilities can be grouped into pools to improve access to CIHI’s publications and education courses. When facilities are grouped into a pool, the facility entitlements under Core Plan subscription are also grouped in this pool. Anyone who has been assigned access to that pool can order products and services, such as publications or education registrations, using the entitlements in that pool. Note that the maximum number of products and services that can be ordered is the sum of all the Core Plan entitlements for facilities in that pool.

How do I get permission to register others from my facility?

If your facility already has an account manager in place, you can contact that person and ask to become a sub-account manager. As a sub-account manager, you will be able to register others from your facility online at the Learning Centre using the online registration tool. If your facility does not have an account manager in place, you can become the account manager for your facility. As the account manager, you will be able to create and update contact information for staff, register others for CIHI’s education sessions and purchase CIHI’s products using the online tools available. Some CIHI course descriptions refer to a user’s manual. Where can I get a copy?

When a user manual is part of the required or recommended material for a course, information about the manual will be provided in the course description. If this manual is available through CIHI’s eStore, a link to the manual will also be provided in the course description. To obtain a copy of the manual, you can contact your facility account manager, or you can contact us at and we’ll be happy to help.

How do I get a Learning Centre account to register for courses?

You can contact your facility account manager or sub-account manager for assistance in getting a Learning Centre account or registering for CIHI courses. You can also contact us at and we’ll help you get an account set up. Please be sure to provide us with the following information:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your job title
  • The complete legal name of your facility or organization
  • The complete mailing address of your facility or organization
  • Your facility phone number (with extension, if applicable)
  • Your email address

This information will help us process your request faster.

I can’t remember my Learning Centre password—how do I retrieve it?

You can go to the welcome page of the Learning Centre and enter your username in the login section on that page. Then click the link “Email me my password” and a password reminder will be sent to the email address we have on file for you. If you don’t receive a password reminder in your email mailbox, please contact us at and we’ll be happy to assist. Please remember that Learning Centre usernames and passwords are both case- and digit-sensitive.
