Principal’s Message:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10). When was the last time you were put down or scoffed at because of a choice you made to do the right thing? When a person acts in a God-pleasing way that is different than the societal norm or the accepted conventions, they put themselves at risk of being on the receiving end of put-downs, cold-shoulders and outright bullying. And those who try to tempt you to do something morally wrong, illegal or simply unkind have little sayings that are expected to sway you (and sometimes do!) “Live a little!” “You only live once.” “You deserve some fun.” “Rules are made to be broken.” If you read the passage from Matthew carefully, you will notice what Jesus says about such persecution. “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness.” The good things that we try to do, apart from Christ, are nothing. But the good things we do in Christ are done out of love and thanksgiving for the forgiveness we have received from Him. Those are the acts that are God-pleasing. Those are the choices that we make to stand up for what is right that are spirit-filled. As surely as the sun rises, someone will point out your God-pleasing choices and give you a hard time about them. Yet, as surely as the sun sets, you are blessed through the perfect righteousness you receive through forgiveness in Christ! Yours is the kingdom of heaven. ~ Mr. Kanzenbach

Spanish Class:

The K-4th Graders are starting a new unit this week in Spanish. They will be learning about the Spanish words for parts of the body. They will also be learning the Spanish version of the song “Head, shoulders, knees, and toes” (modified a little to fit the Spanish words).

5th – 8th Grade:

We have a field trip on Monday to the Minneapolis Convention Center to watch a live show called Physics Force. The show uses humor and science to reinforce the physical science concepts we’ve been learning this year. This gets to be a very busy time of the year for everyone with basketball practices and games. Parents, please continue to encourage your children to use diligence in getting their homework done and done to best of their ability during this time. ~ Mr. Kanzenbach

2nd – 4th Grade:

It was good to get back to school last week. Everyone enjoyed the time off and had a great Christmas. Talking about gifts gave us the chance to think about how blessed we all are. God provides all that we need, some things we want, AND gives us eternal life through Jesus. In our Bible lessons and devotions, we often talk about how we can show love to God for all he does for us. Memorizing the words "Love your neighbor as yourself" is so much easier than doing them! With God's help, we continue to grow in love for him and each other, even as we study many other subjects. In Math, second grade is working on additions and subtraction. Third grade is starting a unit on geometry. Fourth grade will learn division. In Science, we are continuing our study of animals. ~ Mrs. Carpenter

Kindergarten – 1st Grade:

We are starting a new Social Studies unit that takes a look at the differences and similarities of what school is like in different countries around the world. By the end of the unit the children will have expanded their view of the world, been introduced to the seven continents, and compared/contrasted different cultures (all state standards presented in a way that the children find interesting). Have a blessed week in our LORD! ~ Mrs. Everhart

Pre-School:

We have chapel on Wed. There are now photos of the Pre-Schoolchildren, during December, up near the entrance doors, the church doors! [Don't know when I'll have time to e-mail them to you.] This week we will be starting something new, when the children first come into the classroom. I'd like them to sit down in their "bear" chair and make a plan of what they'd like to play each morning. Some quotes from a book I read this summer: Educating Young Children, by Holmann: "Planning promotes children's self-confidence and sense of control." "Through daily opportunities children gain a basic knowledge of the physical world, what things are made of, how things work, and the effect their actions have on them." "Encourage rather than praise children's ideas." "Being a partner in children's play means following the child's lead." More to come later... Hope your New Year will be a healthy and peace filled. May the Lord bless you and yours!~ Mrs. Palla
